A wonderful end to the day. The medieval city of Carcassonne was lit with beautiul pink and blue hues. A World Heritage site, just a feast for the eyes. Shared with a group of togs lead by David Clapp a few weeks ago.

To my Flickr contacts and friends, sorry if I've not been visiting your photostreams for the last couple of months but the small matter of our daughter's wedding, work and of course this great trip to Carcassone have kept me away from the computer. Hope to catch up with you all soon. Thank you for looking.

J'ai failli faire demi tour en voyant la tournure que prenait le ciel, mais finalement , il restait une petite place pour le soleil couchant.

Nel 1966, il Reverendo Ralph Hardy, un sacerdote in pensione, stava scattando una foto della scala a chiocciola (conosciuta come la "Scala dei tulipani") nella “Queen’s House” di Greenwich e catturò l'immagine di un fantasma. Gli esperti analizzarono il negativo originale e verificarono come non fosse stato manomesso in alcun modo. Questa foto servì come prova che i tanti incontri spettrali alla Casa della Regina erano reali. Passi, porte che sbattevano, e le voci di bambini che cantano sono state spesso udite intorno alla scala. I visitatori del museo sono stati addirittura sfiorati da dita invisibili durante il loro tour! Apparizioni sono state avvistate in varie occasioni, come quella del fantasma che sembra essere asciugare il sangue dal fondo alle scale. Gli storici dicono che 300 anni fa, una cameriera fu gettata dalla cima delle scale e cadde per 50 piedi fino alla sua morte.

In 1966, retired clergyman Rev. Ralph Hardy was taking a picture of the spiral staircase (known as the "Tulip Staircase") in the Queen's House section of the National Maritime Museum in Greenwich, England, when he captured the image of a ghost. Experts analyzed the original negative and verified that it had not been tampered with or manipulated in any way. This photo served as proof that the many ghostly encounters at the Queen's House were real. Footsteps, slamming doors, and the chanting voices of children are often heard around the staircase. Visitors to the museum have even been pinched by unseen fingers during their tour! Full-body apparitions have been seen on many occasions; one such apparition appears to be mopping up blood from the bottom of the stairs. Historians say that 300 years ago, a maid was thrown from the top of the stairs and fell 50 feet to her death, which might explain the ghostly clean-up crew.

Desearía aprovechar para pedir a los responsables del lugar (Diputación de La Coruña o Xunta de Galicia o quien sea) una mínima atención para un enclave tan espectacular, pero tan dejado de la mano de Dios. Ójala que cuando alguién lo visite las pintadas del faro, la basura y los postes deteriorados resto de una antigua acometida de luz hayan desaparecido ... ¡y no le dejemos todo el trabajo al Photoshop!!

Az apátságot 1182-ben III. Béla alapította, s a XIV. század közepéig illetve a XV. század elejéig virágzott, s a magyarországi ciszterci apátságok között rendkívül jelentős szerepet töltött be. A török uralom során, 1541-re már biztosan elmenekültek a szerzetesek, s maga Zirc is hamarosan lakatlanná vált. Az 1700-as évek elején a sziléziai, heinrichaui ciszterci apátság élesztette újra a zirci apátságot és telepítette be a falut. 1733-ra épült fel az egyemeletes monostor - közvetlenül a mai templom melletti szárnyak. 1748-ra épült fel a templom. Gazdag berendezése 1770-re készült el. A templom titulusa - mint minden ciszterci apátsági templomnak - Szűz Mária mennybevétele; a templom felszentelése 1752-ben volt. Az apátság jelenlegi formáját fokozatosan nyerte el, az 1750-re elkészült épületek után, 1844-47 között épült a nyugati szárny, a könyvtár és vörös torony, majd 1866-ban a déli és keleti szárnyak második emelete. Végül 1927-ben a keleti szárny második emelete. Mindezekhez az építkezésekhez és az apátsághoz tartozó 5 (Baja, Buda, Eger, Pécs, Székesfehérvár) gimnázium fenntartásához az apátság rendkívül fejlett gazdálkodása adta 1950-ig a biztos anyagi hátteret; az előszállási uradalom mintaszerű gazdálkodása országszerte híres volt. 1950 után a szerzetesrendek állami feloszlatásával az épületegyüttes többféle funkciót látott el. 1990-tól újra a magyarországi ciszterci élet középpontja. Bastide construite en 1222 par le comte Raymond VII de Toulouse, haut lieu du catharisme, cette cité médiévale adapte ses rues tortueuses et ses maisons séculaires à un relief escarpé dominant la paisible vallée du Cérou. Site touristique fréquenté, Grand site de Midi-Pyrénées, elle est une étape du pèlerinage de Saint-Jacques-de-Compostelle et est considérée comme un des plus beaux villages de France.
The fortified town was built in 1222 by Raimon VII, the Count of Toulouse, who, though not a Cathar himself, tolerated the heresy. The village is now a popular tourist spot.
