We had our hottest day of the year yesterday and early summer odes were out at the wetlands - two male Spangled skimmers in the sloughs and a Black saddlebags flew over my car as I drove in. And I've seen one Blue dasher. All 80's ahead in the forecast but also overcast weather with a chance of rain each day. Spangled skimmers are one of my favorite species because they flash those bright white stigma as they fly.

The New Zealand Dotterel or Red-breasted Plover is an endangered species and is found on sandy beaches and sandspits or feeding on tidal estuaries. Dotterels are nearing extinction with about 1300 northern dotterels, and approximately 75 or so southern dotterels.
Parents lay eggs in the spring and summer. They nest on beaches above the high tide mark, and the nest is just a shallow hole dug in the ground, not made of twigs like a nest in a tree. The chicks hatch about 28 days after the eggs have been laid. Because the nests are on the ground, chicks can walk the day they hatch and can usually fly within 6-8 weeks.

Nivéole d'été,peux induire en erreur car elle pousse au mois de mai,cette fleur,protégée,rare en Suisse,ne se trouve à l'état sauvage que dans la région de Meienried,canton de Berne à l'endroit dénommé Le Trou de Meienried,Meienriedloch en allemand.

Das Naturschutzgebiet "Meienriedloch" ist Schweizweit der einzige Standort an welchem das sogenannte "Maiglöcklein", die Sommerknotenblume (Leucojum aestivum) als Wildblume gedeiht.

The nature reserve "Meienriedloch" Switzerland is far the only site at which the so-called "lily of the valley", the summer snowflake (Leucojum aestivum) grows as a wild flower.

Collared Bush-Robin (female)

The Collared Bush-Robin, Tarsiger johnstoniae (formerly Erithacus johnstoniae) is a small bird approximately 13 cm long. The male has a black head, neck, and back; a bright, reddish-orange hind collar and bar across the scapulars, and long, narrow white supercilium. The female lacks the males bright colors; she is olive-gray above and yellowish-buff below, with a less prominent supercilium. Juvenile birds are streaky brown with buff supercilium.

Collared Bush-Robins inhabit coniferous and broadleaf forest undergrowth in high mountains. They are most often seen alone or in pairs, on mountain tracks and roads, although they will utilize low perches when available. They are fairly common on Mount Ali (A Li Shan), in Chiayi County, which is why they are sometimes called "Mount Ali robins." They are also found in similar forest habitat, at 2000 to 2800 m elevation, on other mountains. Their food consists of caterpillars and insects.

I thought I wasn't going to get any good shots the other day, but just as I was heading home this Red-winged Blackbird flew by me in good light. You just never know what you'll get.

This is a full-frame shot, so to see more detail it must be enlarged.

Après avoir parcouru une vallée harmonieuse , où se niche quelques merveilleux lacs ( engloutis sous la neige et la glace..) , nous débouchons au Col du Cheval Blanc ( 2791m) . Depuis ce passage s ' ouvre un paradis de sommets et de cols accessibles aux randonneurs sportifs . Depuis ces grandioses belvédères c ' est l ' occasion de découvrir "les grands " : Le Viso , la Meije et le Mont-Blanc.....

(EXPLORED) Could this Prairie Dog look any more content and laid back with his treat? These critters are a riot to watch when they're eating and nothing seems to distract them when food is in their hands.

Not wanting to waste an entire sunrise at Navy Pier, I thought that I'd also visit Buckingham Fountain. I arrived to find out that the fountains had not yet been turned on. On the way I did notice some idle sails just across Lakeshore Drive. Click, click, click... and the rest was history. I've found another nice place to shoot in the Windy City! I have a habit of hiding the sun behind things when I don't know where to put it. Guess it's just my kinda style.
