" THAT'S not the Pink Panther prowling Preston railway station but North End midfielder Nicky Wroe, stitched up and left red-faced by boss Graham Westley. The dazzling whistle might look a million dollars in Las Vegas or Miami Beach - in deepest Lancashire it sticks out like a very sore thumb.

Joker Wroe thought he had put one over on his manager when the pair struck a bet to wear the suit. But Westley had the last laugh over his standin skipper.

And it was Preston who were in the pink yesterday, headers from Akpo Sodje and Shane Cansdell-Sherriff sealing the derby points.

The busy Wroe had also clearly recovered from his wardrobe malfunction.

A club insider revealed: "Graham got a few comments about the suit in the States this summer and Nicky challenged him to wear it to give the team talk for Swindon.

"Graham said fine, as long as Nicky agreed to wear it for the midweek trip up to Carlisle in the Johnstone's Paint Trophy. Nicky thought he would be able to just slip on and off the team coach - you should have seen his face when he found out they were going by train."

It's a tale that could have come from the days of Wimbledon's Crazy Gang, a sign that the team spirit and banter is buzzing in the dressing room. "
