Glitched Camera Images into Textile Art

Phillip Stearns posted a new topic:

Glitch Textiles on Kickstarter

Hi, I'm Phil Stearns, a Brooklyn based artist working with electronics and electronic media. I operate Year of the Glitch, a year-long glitch-a-day project, and have been actively creating electronic art since 2002.

I'm raising funds via Kickstarter to develop my Glitch Textiles project at the TextielLab in the Netherlands. The project started as a curious exploration of visual technologies through corrupting the hardware of digital cameras. Through online print on demand services, I've begun to explore the powerful potential of merging digital photography, glitch art, and textiles arts by weaving these images into blankets.

Check out the Kickstarter page to learn more, become a backer, and choose from a range of cool rewards!

Thanks!
Phil

Glitch Textiles have been featured recently on www.wired.com/design/2012/08/glitch-textile/ and The Verge.

Changes in rules

Heather K. Powers::HKpowerStudio posted a new topic:

There has been some confusion and some people who were not happy with the posting rules so we are going to try out something new. The new rules allow each person to post 1 thing at a time (and you must comment on the photo posted before yours). You can post up to 5 photo's a day but can not post them all together.

Example:
Post by Webees, Post by Annonomous, Post by Webees, Post by Annonomous...

There must be at least 1 other photo posted between your posts and you must comment on the photo before yours for each photo you post.

Hope this makes sense and if you have any questions please post them here so we can address them as quickly as possible.

Thanks!

I agree with you that it's great to receive comments from other members. I haven't been too good in doing that myself; this summer, both of my daughters have/are getting married, so I had too many things to plan. But I will try to take time to look at the group's photos.

Okay, so I'm going to help moderate now with Ana Gabriela. I'd love to see this group get back to being for a community of people with a common interest in intersting textiles from around the world. Hopefully people will beging to comment again, if they do not their work will be deleted from the pool.

We will be giving people at least a day to respond to our request for comments before deleting from the pool. Hopefully no one will take offense at this, we will try it and see how it goes.

Thanks for sharing!

Hi Everybody. I have been away for a while. with some personal issues. but Im back now. And will start monitoring the group closely as I did before. Thank you guys for posting this, and for being part of the group.
I do understand your frustration when it comes to the post and comments. That is something I always monitored, before.
However , i will need a little help, with the monitoring. Thank you so much Marie ( little_stitcher) por sticking with the group, are you still up to being an administrator.
I do need at least another person to be an administrator so we can keep up with monitoring the comments.
Please let me know if you want to do it and again, thanks so much.
we need to work more on the rules, regarding what kind of photos we can post.

I agree. I have been off Flickr for a few months and see that the postings in this group have changed. Originally it was an opportunity to post and view interesting textiles that we have picked up on our travels or photographed while on vacation. Now it has morphed in to a site for people to post photos of projects that they have created themselves. Lots of this is really interesting stuff - and I guess you could stretch the meaning by thinking that if you are from somewhere else in the world it meets the concept for the group.......but Flickr has plenty of really good groups for posting your own textile arts.

Same as WeBees - I would like the administrator(s) of this group to get people back to posting international textiles.....

I assume that "Aboriginal" does not just mean Australian Aboriginal, but includes North American Aboriginal art? You might want to check with your prof. on this point.
How about a Navaho blanket design as background, and spidery graffiti over top of it?
Or Haida or Tsimshan art as a diptych with graffiti on the other side...?
If you go to a newstand that has a good selection of art magazines, you will find that there are magazines that feature aboriginal culture and aboriginal art - we even have one here in our local library.
