Science is happening all around us – not just in a classroom or a lab. Science Chicago’s Flickr group is a forum open to anyone around the globe who wishes to awaken their inner scientist and demonstrate through photography, the ways that science impacts our daily lives. Have you caught a glimpse of wildlife in your own backyard? Had hands-on experience with new technology? Traveled to a new and exotic destination? Or conducted an experiment at a recent Science Chicago event? We want to see the science that you see – so snap away!

By submitting your photos, you’ll help showcase the natural wonders of our city, surrounding communities and universe and become an integral part of Science Chicago’s broader mission to spur thoughtful debate and build enthusiasm for cutting-edge science.

As the world’s largest science celebration, Science Chicago allows kids of all ages to explore the wonders of our region’s scientific resources. More than 100 of the area’s academic, cultural, corporate, and non-profit institutions have come together under the Science Chicago umbrella to offer thousands of programs throughout the city and suburbs.
Winter science shots

Hi Science Chicago Flickr Members!

Well, we're in the thick of it - the winter that is. For all of you located in or around the Chicago area, you know just how darn cold it can get!!

Are you fascinated by interesting ice formations? Mesmerized by beautiful snow flake patterns? Noticing how steam seems to come off everything at this time of year (i.e. Lake Michigan or your dog's breath!?)

Then share your shots with us! Even though some nature is taking its long winter's nap, there are plenty of examples of science happening around us in this chilly weather. We've got a few beauties posted already - show us what else you've got!

Thanks and can't wait to see your work!

Hello!
My name is Christiaan, and I live in the western suburbs of Chicago. I've always liked science to some degree, especially biology, geology, and astronomy, though I haven't studied any of it since college much too long ago. I'm a proponent of wildlife conservation, especially the reintroduction of grey wolves to their natural habitats.

90+% of my photos come from the Morton Arboretum in Lisle, IL. I love nature and hiking through it to find all its treasures, obvious and hidden.
