I have one as well. It never Broke and I use it all the time. Luv this thing. I leave all the legs in hooked positions. makes it even more sturdy. I wasnt gonna get one because of the bad reviews I read. The only problem I can see is if u got a defective one, other than that youve got to be a complete idiot not to be able to use one. lol. Gorillapod focus tripod screw too big

I just got a gorillapod focus, and its tripod screw, the big one that screws over the smaller one, has too big threads to screw properly onto my ballhead. The ballhead literally won't screw down with any reasonable amount of force and I'm not keen on stripping the threads off. Anyone else have this issue?

Had exactly the same problem as reported previously in this thread.
I've bought the Gorilla Pod SLR zoom through Amazon and after 3 uses in within the first month discovered a crack in the joint of the leg ( HERE's the pic : ftp.mannyc.tv/mannyc.tv___TRANSFER/photo%20copy%205.JPG ). Amazon UK and/or the seller don't aknowledge the defect of the product and won't refund / exchange.
Now, either the product is defective and therefore needs to be exchanged or the overall quality of the product is very poor. I have only used it 3 times and there's no reason for it to crack like that.

It would be good to hear from Joby Customer Service.

SLR-Zoom vs SLR-Zoom blk/red

Noticed they carry two colors of the SLR-Zoom and while they should be the same, I noticed the gray one was rated at 6.6lbs while black/red at 6.5 lbs. Even though its a minimal difference, it raised the question on quality of the newer black/red one.

Anyone have the newer Red Gorillapod or heard if they perform any different?

I fly with my Gorillapod Focus and attached ball-head several times a year and it still gets more attention as "what is it" than as a security concern. Official TSA policy states tripods are allowed as carry on items.

I have, but not within the US. It was from Australia to Buenos Aires. Nothing was said, or even acted upon by security at both sides. Same with continental flights within South America.

I don't think you'd have much of a problem.

Nevermind found out the problem. The thread adapter for the ballhead is not flush wiht the bottom or recessed. It sticks out thus causing the ballhead not to sit flush on the gorillapod base. I'm in contat with Joby to see if they will send me another adapter. I'll send them some measurements. That is the issue or the ballhead was not drilled and tapped deep enough to allow the adapter to sit flush or reessed a bit.

Hey there everyone.

I recently bought a new Cineskates bundle from Cinetics. It comes with a Gorillapod Focus and Ballhead X. I'm not sure if this is by design or if mine has an issue but my ballhead does not sit flush against the base on the gorilla pod. Looking at other pics on the net shows the ballhead sits flush against the base, as it should. There is a small gap all the way around on mine in between the ballhead and the gorillapod's base which prevents the head from getting tight. It just spins around no matter how tight I make the thread. Also it seems either the gorillapod was not drilled straight or the ballhead was not drilled and tapped straight as one side has slightly more of a gap than on another side.

So basically the panning knob is useless for me as I have no way of locking the tripod down in position. It pretty much is on full-time pan because the ballhead has nothing to mount flush to and it just spins because the threads bottom out inside the ballhead and won't allow it to go any closer to the base of the gorillapod. I have tried using the 1/4" thread from the gorillapod but it is not long enough to go up into the ballhead X.

Have others experienced this issue?

I would of preferred a tool like an allen head rather than a wide slot that doesn't fit any coin very well but that's neither here nor there at this point.
