Here's the way the parse error shows up:

The filter in the file
`C:\Users\Vivian\.gimp-2.8\mathmap\expressions/new folder/Droste_expression.mm'
cannot be parsed.

Any ideas on what I am doing wrong? Thanks much.

I am getting a "Parse Error". I clear out everything from the "Expression" tab, and then I paste the code into the blank box. Then I hit "Preview". That's when I get the message "Parse Error".

I am trying to get the Droste effect to work.

I use CS5, Windows Vista and "Run as Administrator". This is what I have copied and pasted into the blank "expression" widow": (Please let me know if this is the correct code that I am supposed to be pasting):

alpha=atan(p2/p1*log(r2/r1)/(2*pi));
f=cos(alpha);
beta=f*exp(I*alpha);

# the angle of rotation between adjacent annular levels
angle = 2*pi*p1;

if mirrorEffect then

So there you have it. Can someone please let me know why I am getting a "Parse Error" and how to load the right code so that I can start to make Droste photos?

Just as the title says, I've downloaded and installed the MathMap filter for Gimp, and I can only get as far as Filter - Generic - Mathmap... I am not even able to select the next Mathmap subcategory to add the droste code. I am using Windows 7. Any help??

No problem!!!!! Just copy file "Droste.pbk" in dir:
C:\\Program Files\Adobe\Adobe Photoshop CS5\Pixel Bender Files
and it is OK.
Launch Photoshop CS5 , load an image, go to Filter > Pixel Bender>Pixel Bender Gallery and you will find there the filter.

Photoshop users correct me if I'm wrong, but...

So you've got a file extension problem. .pbk is a windows file extension for "Dial-Up Phonebook" (whatever that is). it is also an extension for Pixel Bender files. Which is what you want.

Pixel Bender is an Adobe Photoshop plug-in. So you need Photoshop first. I don't believe Pixel Bender works without it.

If you have Photoshop and Pixel Bender installed properly, then the file should be recognized as a Pixel Bender file (not a phonebook).

I downloaded the zipped file from both Adobe and www.subblue.com/projects/droste
It contains the picture of a chessboard a flower a Droste Effect Readme and Droste Dial-Up Phonebook.
I have Pixel Bender Installed and Working.
If I double click the Dorste Dial-Up Phonebook it says the phone book is empty and you can create a connection if you know the username and password you ISP provider gave you (which I don't because I've never had cause to know it up to now).
Is this the way it is for everyone who has downloaded it.
I was expecting some sort of file that automatically installed on one I would have to add to the Pixel Bender Folder.

Any suggestions would be useful thanks
