This totally worked and I got super sharp results. I used quarters to hold the negative down. That works best.

I think these steps may help:

Do a preview scan
Select part of the film without sprocket holes
Click the ‘auto exposure’ button
Expand the selection to include the sprockets (the exposure should now stay the same!)
Click “Scan”

Let me know if that works for you.

Hey all! I'm having real problems from the get go! I'm using the Digitaliza with the Canon 9000f Mkii and it's my first true introduction to scanning my negatives in.

The scanner doesn't recognise the the mask and the supplied mask won't allow me to scan with the sprokets exposed. Is this a software issue? I'm using the software that came supplied with the unit. What do you all suggest please...starting to feel like I may need to become McGuyver and make something.

Hey Magnus - I have been doing this with my Nettar. I use black electrical tape and tape all the joins on the outside of the camera (top, bottom, sides) and the film advance window closed. I use my fingernail to press the tape tight into the grooves and tape again. Seems to work.

A question for you if I may: How do you put your 35mm into your nettar? I have been taping it in place on the right and taping it onto a 120 spool on the left. It works ok. But I have been finding that when I wind on the dial becomes very tight sometimes and I have a to wind very hard. Do you find that? I get worried because it's an old camera and I don't want to break it. I wondered if you have a solution/ or do something differently.

I use Silverfast to scan with and it does something similar if I try to do the levels with the sprocket holes (or any pure black) selected... maybe make sure you just select an image within the sprocket holes to set your levels, then stretch the frame outside to scan the entire image.

Negatives Randomly Washout Then Restore Without Changing Settings

DasGus posted a new topic:

I'm at a loss. I have an Epson V500 and have been scanning old b&w negatives for the past week without an issue. Beautiful scans. But last night it started to gradually wash them out until they are white. I tried restarting computer, changing settings, restoring defaults, turning scanner on and off, etc. No difference. Here's what's weird. I took a negative I had scanned a few days ago that I knew wasn't an issue with the negative and scanned it. Perfect. Did not touch settings, Went back to a negative it washed out and scanned it - white. I left it overnight. This am, still white except then, all of a sudden, it made a beautiful scan of the same neg it was washing out just minutes before. So it's not the negative film causing issues or the exposure. I was relieved and commenced scanning and sure enough the washing out came back. Did not touch settings and took a negative from days ago - and perfect. Back to the negative it washed out - washed out again. What the heck is this thing doing??
