Hey All, Apologies if i shouldnt post this here.

Me and some mates are starting up our own band ( Called Valley View ) and for a picture to go along with it we were thinking along the lines of a fire in a valley with something like a lightning bolt aswell ( so you know looks really evil etc ( Lightning will most likely be photoshopped in )) But we cannot find any photos of a valley thats on fire and i was wandering if anyone here has a photo or could suggest one that might suit what were looking for ??

Thanks

I agree with the political gesturing. I've heard from pretty reputable sources that it's a muckity muck at Clear AFB who is the (allegedly) guilty party, but then again... If they're not going to file charges, why won't they release the name?

ah, politicking at its finest. Remind me to be someone important someday.

AKDave posted a reply:

Although she cleared a denfensible space around her brush pile, called the State Foretry, was told she could burn her brush pile, and had a permt to do so BEFORE a burn ban was placed, the lady who started the Cohoe Loop Fire was charged and could pay up to 60,000 dollars in fines and costs.

Why charge someone who played the rules by the book, and then let someone go who is criminally responsible for a 100,000 acre + fire up north? I think there's some serious political gesturing going on within the Forest Service, big time...

Akfirebug posted a new topic:

84,000 acers $7.5 million 2 homes lost and No criminal charges have bene filed. (and the fire is only 45% contained)

As I read the paper today I was shocked to hear that , Though it may have been careless, said District Attorney Jeff O'Bryant. As cited, the law requires that his conduct be reckless. There are insufficient facts to prove that he acted recklessly beyond a reasonable doubt.

Rumors here and Nenana are saying he was told by forestry that there was a burn ban on the day of the fire but he burned anyway.....is that too careless. Stupidity goes free again

Here iis the whole story:
Thursday, June 22, 2006 - No criminal charges are expected against the person who was cited for sparking the Parks Highway Fire because facts so far show the 83,500-acre blaze was not ignited recklessly, according to the district attorney's office.

"Though it may have been careless," said District Attorney Jeff O'Bryant. "As cited, the law requires that his conduct be reckless. There are insufficient facts to prove that he acted recklessly beyond a reasonable doubt."

O'Bryant's decision could change if more facts come to light, he said. His decision does not close the door on civil liability.

Two houses and 14 outbuildings have burned since the blaze ignited from ash dumped near the woods on June 7, and the state has spent $7.5 million on the firefighting effort, according to fire information officer Allison Jackson.

An unknown number of remote cabins near the mouth of the Wood River could be in the fire's path as it continues to grow on its northeastern flank, Jackson said.

The fire started at a residence at 290.8 Mile Parks Highway. According to O'Bryant, the ash came from a burn barrel that had been used the day before it was dumped.

The homeowner had touched rocks in the barrel and determined they felt cool, the prosecutor said. The place where the ash was discarded had apparently been hosed off.

"They were dumped in the area where the family normally dumps ashes and yard debris," O'Bryant said.

After the fire started, family members quickly tried to douse it and called 911.

"Should additional information be received, through continued investigative efforts, that warrants charges being filed, they will be," O'Bryant said.

Containment of the fire remains at 45 percent, according to Jackson. What is burning is wilderness predominantly on the east side of the Parks Highway between Anderson and Nenana, which is 55 road miles southwest of Fairbanks. The fire is south of the Tanana River and west of the Tatlanika River.

Most of the fire's recent growth occurred Tuesday when flames reached heavier fuels, namely black spruce, creating a smoke column nearly 30,000 feet tall, Jackson said. The average smoke column stands at 15,000 to 20,000 feet.

"We are providing structure protection for remote cabins at the mouth of Wood River," Jackson said.

Officials are also focusing on steering the fire toward old burn scars, where it would have less fuel to consume, Jackson said.

The fire service reduced its firefighting force from about 550 people to an estimated 400 people, she said.

The speed limit along the fire area of the Parks Highway has resumed to the normal 65 mph, according to a statement from the Alaska Division of Forestry. Motorists are still asked to use caution and watch for firefighters working in the area between Nenana and 280 Mile.
