Winchelsea Beach

The stretch of England's south coast that runs from Cliff End in the west to Rye Harbour in the east. This beautiful place can be open and peaceful, but it can also be moody and inhospitable - lets see how it appeared to you.

Please, only pictures that have the beach, or some part of the beach, as their main subject - not pictures of people, dogs etc that just happen to be there.

Let me just say that again.....

Please, only post pictures that have the BEACH, or some aspect of it, as their MAIN SUBJECT. If your picture is removed, that is probably because your picture has something else (dog, child, Pett Level, seagull) as its MAIN SUBJECT.

Now that the sea defences have been built up, a lot of what you can see in this group pool is no longer visible, but Winchelsea Beach continues to be a magical, atmospheric place.

New Rules

feersumendjinn posted a new topic:

I'm sill having to remove pictures that do not conform to the description I've given for this group. I have created new rules that any new members will be required to read and agree with. For the benefit of the existing membership, here they are, please take a minute to read them. Thanks.

Only post photos of Winchelsea Beach - I'm defining it as the the stretch of coast that runs from Cliff End in the west to Rye Harbour in the east. No pictures beyond these limits e.g. Camber. No pictures of the fields and lakes of Pett Level.

Only pictures that have Winchelsea Beach, or some part of the beach, as their main subject . No pictures that have people, dogs, children etc. as their main subject with the beach as a background.

Don't post multiple images that are practically identical.

I will remove any images that I feel don't conform to the rules and by agreeing to them, you are agreeing to abide by my decision.

I'm going to try and clarify the boundaries of 'Winchelsea Beach' - From Cliff End in the west to the mouth of the Rother in the east, inland as far as the shingle reaches. So along the Pett Level stretch, only as far as the top of the embankment, but along the Rye Reserve stretch it can include some of the reserve that borders the beach proper. At the river end, no futher inland than the pill box nearest the Rother. Obviously there are grey areas, but somewhere like the moorings in Rye Harbour are way too far inland. If you've crossed a road or are standing in a field, you are also probably too far inland.

Ok, just to clear this up - this group is for pictures that have Winchelsea Beach, or some aspect of the beach itself, as the main subject of the photo. Subjects like your mate sitting on the beach, or your dog running on the beach are generally not acceptable - in these cases the dog or person is the main subject of the picture, but there may be exceptions. I've had a quick look through after being offline for a while and there are a few that I will have to remove as they don't fulfil the criteria in my opinion. In no way is this a reflection on the quality of the picture as such, simply that it belongs in a diffrent group.

.... more photos from this fantastic location.

I was like a dog with four tails when I was there, it was almost stressful selecting each shot and forcing myself to slow down!

I spent a great couple of days at Winchelsea in June and it was thanks to flickr that I found it as a possible trip destination. It was your photostream Mark that decided it for me!

I took a few good shots at nearby Dungeness too.

Cheers - and thanks for the invite!
