Just got back from a Matt Collishaw talk, which was good. There seems to be a lot more going on around here just lately.

The thing is, I drop in here for a bit of mildly photography related chat and an occasional bit of something more... educational isn't the right word, neither is stimulating, but something a bit deeper. Other than that, I don't have time. I'll do random uploads, I'll comment on the very occasional photograph and that's probably about it.

I was fairly confident this wouldn't happen to me, but sure enough, it has, much as it has done for many of the other higher level students over the years...

Seems a good idea Anne.Let me add as well though that the TV group do contribute to the tutor's fee - that's part of the agreement.

You can form your own groups on Flickr anyway and they can be 'closed'/'private' groups as well. I remember Joe Fox having such a one for his own students. I have also been involved in two private blogs. There's certainly lots of ways of doing it.

Added... I re-read it and apparently the proposition is that we are to use the forums to request critiques.

The more I think about it the more I think that it comes down to every man/woman making appropriate arrangements of some sort for him/herself. Like the Thames Valley Group who have tutor paid for by OCASA. I wonder if there is some virtual equivalent those of us who are on level 2 or 3, and who don't have a group of students nearby could sort out. It could be off-flickr some sort of private virtual "non-local" group meeting

Just thinking out loud really.

Apart from the front page, I think the changes aren't that bad really, it's just a shock without the prior announcement.

The one thing we have to bear in mind is that without enough income from the site, the site won't exist, so what else is there? The alternatives seem just as bad, so I'm staying, cancelling my pro account though.

The other thing is, what about Adobe's changes? OK they've announced them well in advance but we're even more stuck with them as there isn't a viable alternative!

Oh, that was interesting to read... I don't use the student site, because it's slow, and I need to run script-block to open it, which means some aspects of it doesn't work, I think the main structure of it is built on Wordpress, also blocked here, hence the trouble...
I see the new site will run (?) on Google App Edu, (or something like that), which will make it not work in China without a VPN (I think...). As a rule, only Gmail is available, but not 100% of the time, but all other Google services are blocked here. Googleplay for Android is fine though...

I've been wondering if the student site will ever get a system installed for us to share photographs similar to flickr, but I noticed in the latest OCASA news that the report on the proposed new student site is to do away completely with an image sharing facility as it has no educational value:-O
