6 MINUTES TO SAVE A LIFE?
ACFAS IS THERE IN LESS THAN 5!

Each year more than 1,000 savable lives are lost in this country because of inadequate emergency response services. Cardiac arrest and stroke patients have less than six minutes to receive life-saving treatment. Seconds can literally mean the difference between life and death.

ACFAS responds to more than 2,400 emergency calls a year and does not charge the Township for its services. Woodbridge Township's recent decision to suspend ACFAS' services was based on inaccurate reports of lagging response times and other unsupported allegations. ACFAS' average response to 9-1-1 calls is less than 5 minutes, three minutes faster than the 8 minute national average.

The decision to cut life-saving services to an already overburdened EMS system jeopardizes you and your loved ones' safety. The Township's already scaled-down EMS system does not have adequate resources to respond to this volume of emergency calls. Cutting more EMS services puts the lives of all Woodbridge residents at risk.

On August 3, at 7 p.m., the Council will vote on whether to eliminate ACFAS' 9-1-1 response services permanently. If you are interested in historic cemetaries may I suggest St. Peter's Episcopal Church in Spotwood. Certified in 1756 St. Peter's has some fantastic memorials comemorating famous people from this portion of the county. Some burial markers pre-date the revolutionary war. Military markers include veterans of both world wars, the civil war and the revolutionary war.

The New Jersey Register of Historic Places is the official list of historic resources of local, state, and national interest in the U.S. state of New Jersey. The program is administered by the Historic Preservation Office of the New Jersey Department of Environmental Protection. The register was established under the terms of the New Jersey Register of Historic Places Act of 1970 (N.J.S.A. 13:1B-15.128 et seq.) The New Jersey Register is closely modeled after the National Register Program. Both Registers have the same criteria for eligibility, nomination form, and review process. Virtually every municipality in New Jersey has properties significant in architecture, history, archeology, engineering and/or culture that are eligible for the New Jersey and National Registers.

Entries being sought for photo contest

The Freehold Soil Conservation District is sponsoring a photo contest for those who can capture subjects that promote the beauty and uniqueness of the natural environments found in Middlesex and Monmouth counties. Wildlife, landscapes, natural resources, agriculture, people interacting with the environment, waterscapes, etc., are all suitable subjects. The following prizes will be awarded: $200, first place; $100, second place; $75, third place.

Photo subjects should depict the natural beauty, environment, agriculture, wildlife, landscapes or waterscapes unique to this area. Photos must be taken in Middlesex County or Monmouth County. Photo location, landmark, town or address should be included with entry

Two entry submissions per person will be allowed. The contest is open to people age 18 and over. Photos must be color or black and white, 8 x 10 inches or 8 x 12 inches. Entries must be received by the Freehold Soil Conservation District, 4000 Kozloski Road, Freehold, N.J. 07728, or by e-mail at info@freeholdscd.org, by Sept. 30. All photos become the property of the contest sponsor.
