Crochet Afghans

Hello folks,
I am Else (pronounced Elsa), and I'm amazed to find myself making afghans AGAIN at 80. The reason is that some of my seven grandkid's are getting married and suddenly I felt I must make the afghan and pillows I made for their mom and their aunt when they got married. I just finished it last night, and the first wedding is next Saturday. WHEW!
Now I'm on a hunt for a softer yarn. I started with Red Heart Super Saver and only did a couple doz rows when I realized how scratchy it was. RH With Love was better, to I returned all the unused yarn and got LOVE. It was okay ... but nothing as nice as what I used 30 years ago for this pattern. Now another grandkid is marrying in Oct. So I'm on a hunt for a softer yarn. I have to say, getting back to 'creating' something that will be treasured for years after I've departed makes me feel very satisfied. It's awesome that I can still do this stuff!

I do not care for Red Heart Super Saver yarns, because they do hurt the hands and are scratchy. I do however like the Love brand of Red Heart Yarns. I love Vanna Whites yarns and I also love Debby Norville or Debra Norville's yarns. I like the yarns from loops and threads, wool ease yarns. Marble brand....it is an acrylic, and I love the pattern it creates as I crochet.

I also really enjoy working with cotton. Cotton gives a nice heft, it is soft and different. I am always for something different.

If my budget allowed it I would buy all of my yarns at my local yarn shop totally, but would cost me an arm and a leg!

I always have at least two projects going at once. I also like to make tatted lace and do cross stitch samplers. I know the basics of knitting, but never really pursued it.

Hi my name is June I am from the uk and Im quiet new to crochet but really love it as Iit gives me a hobby as I dont get out much due to health problems so I just love to crochet and wished I had learnt years ago. I have a problem finding yarn as I dont have a local wool shop and you cant always tell what yarn is like online . must of the lovely yarn I see you cant get in the uk which is such a shame . I have just been looking at all you lovely ladies crochet and it is just so beautiful and I hope with practice I can get better
