I have found that when buying on an auction site, I look for items that are outside the seller's area of expertise. I bought my 124G from a guy who mostly sold shop tools. He must have inherited or just stumbled upon the camera. It looked in good shape and it had the yellow filter, lens hood and close up lenses all in perfect condition, plus a roll of expired 220 verichrome III. Like I said, he knew nothing about the camera, so the description was very vague and I was the only bidder. I got it for a song and after a little cleaning, it works perfectly. I did the same with a Speed Graphic being sold by an ebay seller that mainly sold clothes. They got the camera in an estate sale and knew nothing about it, so they listed it as "broken". Turns out they just didn't know how to work it. Be patient and look for hidden treasures. They are out there all the time.

Good luck. You will love the 124G.

just wondering, do the scratches continue outside the images, between the frames? its very strange, it almost looks like they have let the baths run really low in the film processing machine and the rollers might be leaving streaks...do u have a shot of the roll of film showing the frames and in between them. if its scraches they should continue outside the frames. you mentioned you have had other films developed there... were they from the same camera...if they were... i dont think its your camera. lol , just noticed your last post was 53 months ago.....so iam sure u have sorted the problem already. silly me.

+1 as above.
for really stubborn corrosion, use some steel wool on the affected area to shine up the terminals again.

Hi, I just bought myself a 124g on ebay, but there is corrosion in the battery compartment. Does any one have any tips on how to clean it out before I replace the battery.? As far as I have been told the light meter works. Thanks

Really looking forward to trying out the camera once this is done.

I just had mine done at Newton Ellis as it was completely shagged. They did a good job and even replaced the rear lens element. I still took some time to clean out the film chamber afterwards though.

They're a good choice here in the UK.

i own a mat124 and a mat 124g, i find the 124 to feel more solid in the winding mechanism , other than that i cant really see any difference in the 2 cameras as far as image quality...i bought the g first. but would be happy with either. both take great photos and are very good too hand hold at very slow shutter speeds. great camera... ive recently shot velvia 100 through it ...awsome. i got both cameras off ebay... just make sure u ask if there is any issues with the shutter sticking at slow speeds. its common for them to be sticky if they have sat unnused for a long time. good luck with the search.

Find your nearest pro lab, and hope they currently have a pro. I'm not aware of any place to ship your film out to, though. I'd fear losing my film, haha.
