Any wildlife refuge--Cheyenne Bottoms, Mar de Cygne, Quivera, Baker Wetlands, just to name a few. Any wooded area around water, even some city parks. I don't know if I could get a picture of them except by chance, but here in Topeka, right in the city, I've seen skunks, possums, raccoons, deer, all kinds of birds, and even foxes.

Ask fishermen where their favorite secret spots are. Those often have lots of wildlife around.

South Central Kansas? Check out this site: www.naturalkansas.org/scks.htm

Those should be a great start, and I'm looking forward to your pictures.

All over. You just have to look. I like to go to state parks, and I LOVE to go hiking in the Flint Hills (just be sure to wear jeans and closed-toed shoes in case you encounter a happy copperhead). Sometimes I'll even drive down a dirt road until I'm a long distance from farm houses and just sit in my car (motor off, of course) until something comes along. I usually get deer, jackrabbits, and various wild birds and rodents that way.

I am not sure if there are any physical differences between the Western and the Eastern Meadowlark or not. If any, they are very minor. But....the songs are nothing alike at all...I was raised in Western KS..near WaKeeney, and the wonderful, bubbly, flute-like melody of the W. Meadowlark is unforgettable. I was always told they were singing 'Spring is here, gee-whilliker!" and that is a very accurate description of their beautifull call...usually delivered from atop a fence post with much gusto...!!
