All groups with focus on travelling and info about the world ought to demand geotagging of pictures posted. It is irritating to have to look for places on google just because there is not sufficient info.
Recently, though, some more groups have made geotagging compulsory, which means that pictures with no geotag cannot be invited or posted in those groups..
This tool is easy to handle and gives a lot of info. A few clicks and your pic is on the map. So don´t be lazy out there.

Your advice is much appreciated. We are going at the beginning of March. Tour includes Torres. I am worried about weight because it seems we will have to pack for summer in Buenes Aires and winter gales in Cape Horn and everything in between. I have a Canon 15-85 and hope that will be wide enough.

are you going to Torres?
weather is very unpredictable and varies widely. I went in November and it was hot and sunny some days and then torrential and insanely windy on others.
I suggest a bunch of light layers (some performance), waterproof shell will definitely do you good.
Don't forget that WIDE angle. Everything just goes on forever out there.

Grant Stirton posted a reply:

Just got back from a trip through Nepal and mountaineering in the Solo Khumbu. You sound like you've got the right setup. I carry my Mkii everywhere with a good collection of lenses. 50MM 1.4, 24-70MM 2.8, 70-200MM 2.8, Sigma 15MM Fisheye. More or less has me covered for most situations and creative shots. If you can pull the 24-105MM it's probably the best all around lens for travel. I also carry a small reflector but generally no flash.

I stay away from the Lowepro backpacks and all the fancy the stuff. Been traveling for years and found that being as inconspicuous as possible helps a lot. On the cheap, all my lenses are packed into a small daypack within their cases and some extra bubble wrap for added protection. I also keep a dry bag (similar to that one would carry when diving) with me in case of rain and a neoprene sleeve for my body. We were trekking for a month in the region and I found the best way to keep my camera handy without it getting damaged was to leave it in the sleeve, over my shoulder and then clipped back under my arm with a carabiner. This worked well in the event I had to put my two hands in front of me in case of a fall or slip up. Helped me to keep gear to a minimum and still prevent any unnecessary damage.

It's an absolutely stunning country, beautiful people and culture. Best of luck!
