We are from Northern California and 3 years ago embarked on a project to build a unique compound of buildings in the high Sierra Mtns north of Lake Tahoe. We are building a "starter" house, in German they say Vorwerk, that brings together the architectural features of northern Europe. We call it architecture from the Land of the Blue Eyes. Roof lines from the lovely alpine village of Zakopane in the Carpathian Alps, roof accoutrements from the Dvina River region of NW Russia, carvings on door portals and shutters inspired by the stavkirke (stave churches) of Telemark, Hallingdal, and Urnes in Norway, carvings from the cathedrals of Bremen and Hamburg, rosemal'ing and Bauernmalerei, carved doors from the Baltics, and log and stone inspiration from Prussia and Bohemia. We hope you like our project. We have enjoyed seeing the houses you have shared with us from your part(s) of the World. Paul & Becky

Thanks for all of the comments and adding to the group. My wife and I just got back from a six week trip to Malaysia, Indonesia and Hong Kong. It feels good to be back in China though and relaxing. Thank you for your pictures, comments and additions to the group. Many blessings!!

Hello everyone,

I live in The Neterlands, Southeastern part of the country, nearby the German border. I travelled a lot, mainly in Europe and mainly on a bicycle. So I photographed a lot of houses on my journeys and a few of them I posted in this group.

Hello Dan and Patty. I'm from the Bay Area in Northern California. I spend some time in Australia, Europe, North Africa, South America, and North America. My work takes to places that grow olives. I think your idea is a fine one. Good luck with your project. I would love to see some of the photographs that your students bring in.
