Hi folks we're looking for photographers to post at photos.lifeasahuman.com the new supplementary site to Lifeasahuman.com which is one year old and is in the top 10% of the Internet right now in terms of page views. We are adding a photo site to compliment the main site and will provide exposure for our photographers. If you'd like to submit, the theme is pretty simple: life as a human and your interpretation of that.
We are launching on February 1 and looking for contributors. To get an idea of our credibility check out lifeasahuman.com. You can submit directly through the photos.lifeasahuman.com by clicking the submit button along the top. Thanks and I look forward to seeing you there.

Gallery Astir Launch - Artist Opportunitites / Non Profits

intolerance4you posted a new topic:

DEAR ARTIST (or friend of Artist),

We are excited to announce the upcoming launch of GALLERY ASTIR.™

GALLERY ASTIR brings together local artists, local businesses, and local non-profits by placing original artwork for sale on otherwise barren or aesthetically-neglected wallspace in offices and workplaces across Los Angeles. By uniting artists, businesses, and non-profits, GALLERY ASTIR seeks to promote beautification and social consciousness through fine art.

Local offices and workplaces are treated like galleries – our curators interact with local business owners in their workspaces and, after gaining appreciation of the taste and interests of the owners and their clientele, choose targeted work from our inventory to install and promote in spaces throughout the city.

As a typical gallery does, GALLERY ASTIR places artists’ work for sale on walls; at the same time, though, GALLERY ASTIR distinguishes itself by its studied choice of which walls and which artwork to bring together. That is to say, GALLERY ASTIR presents artwork in the very places its intended audience is most likely to see it. Unlike a typical gallery’s ongoing attempts to bring audience to artwork, GALLERY ASTIR, through its targeted and strategic placements, is able to reach a broader, a more regular, and, ultimately, a more-buying audience.

We are continuously reviewing work for inclusion in our curators’ inventory and our online catalog. At this time, we are exclusively seeking Los Angeles-based artists. If you qualify and wish us to consider your work (or if you'd like to be included in our mailing list so you know when we are expanding to your city), please adhere to the following:

SUBMISSION GUIDELINES

In a single email to astir@galleryastir.com, include:

(1) up to five samples of your work in jpeg format,

(2) your contact information, including local mailing address,

and any or all of the following:

· your bio;

· a Los Angeles-area non-profit whose work you support;

· (if you’d like a particular local business space considered for placement of your work), the name and contact info for that local business.

In the subject line of your email, write “SUBMISSION,“ followed by your name and current city of residence.

Please do not hesitate to ask for further information and pass this along to other artists that may be interested.

Sincerely,
Six great exhibitions on human condition at reportage atri festival in italy

reportage atri festival posted a new topic:

Hi everybody, on Thursday June 18, Reportage Atri Festival has begun in Abruzzo, Italy.
Until August 18, there are six good reasons to discover this new Festival: six great exhibitions from Italian and International photographers:

Ore 3.32 is the story of the recent earthquake in Abruzzo through the lenses of many Italian photographers who have documented hundreds of stories
Skin is a great anthologic exhibition with 18 photographers - from Albert to Berengo Gardin, from Zed Nelson to Barbieri – who speak of colours, pathologies, old age, discrimination and beauty.
L’Europeo presents the history of this great magazine, and of Italy and the world, through its cover pages
Stanley Greene, in Wounds, takes us through the terror of the Chechen people, into the Russia of secrets, and along the roads of opium in Afghanistan
Kathryn Cook, in The memory of trees, went in search of the traces left by Armenian people during the genocide perpetrated by Young Turks at the beginning of last century
Paolo Pellegrin, takes us on the Black Mountains of Hindu Kush to show us how the earth can turn into almost abstract images, conveying also tactile sensations

You can find more info at www.reportageatrifestival.it or post me
Bye
Sherpa of Nepal Project - Please take a minute!

intolerance4you posted a new topic:

Hi Everyone!
A very good (and talented) friend of mine is attempting to receive a photo-journalist grant to document the Sherpa of Nepal. This is a very interesting and compassionate assignment and I hope you will take the time to vote for it at:

www.nameyourdreamassignment.com/the-ideas/thekingfish/god...

He needs at least 400+ votes in the next few days, so please take the minute to register and vote! It means a lot to him and to me! Please repost!

Sincerely,
Dana

(the description is below)

Gods of the Heavens

Sherpa people of Nepal are some of the worlds best unknown athletes.

We pay athletes millions of dollars a year to perform feats of human endurance and skill. We celebrate their ambition and commitment to their sport. But whom have we forgotten? In our safe industry of entertainment that encourages a sense of elitism and individualism, we have ignored those athletes that have no hubris for their feats, that are paid next to nothing, and that are called "guides" for the western tourists. The Sherpa people of Nepal are not only committed to their sport, they are dedicated to their families and their communities. They choose to climb the world’s highest peaks, time and time again, just to put food on their table. These are the true world-class athletes that deserve celebration, that deserve recognition, that deserve respect.

Through a photo-journalistic assignment, I will travel to Nepal in order to interview and document these super athletes who have unmatched knowledge of the high country, and unwavering endurance. I hope to raise awareness for these unknown "Sherpas" who receive next to nothing to guide the rich through treacherous natural obstacles. If we are to celebrate people for their endurance and skill, these are the most deserving. They don't perform for fame, for glory, or for money; they perform for survival.

Humanity Uniting Art Event: Art for Social Change

Humanity Uniting Art Event: Art for Social Change

My name is Dana Arak. I am the Committee Chair for Artists in Action of Empowerment Works, a Non-Profit Organization. I recently posted a request for art for an event in Los Angeles. Well, the date has been solidified:

April 25th at Fifth Floor Gallery in Chinatown

We still need artists who are committed to "harnessing the passion of the arts to support community-based solutions" to donate at least one piece for the event. We had a great response from the flickr community around the world and we hope to create a mutually supportive collaboration of artists and art groups!

We invite you to become part of the movement for our latest series: Humanity Uniting.
Your artwork will be for sale or auction and the proceeds generated by your donated pieces will directly support Empowerment Works' programs: Julia's Home of Happy Colors orphan care program in Zimbabwe and The Global Summit.

In addition to advancing both these grass-roots and global impact solutions, the value of your donated art will be tax deductible, and of course, you and a guest will receive a VIP invite as an Artist in Action.

Thank you for taking the time to consider this request. Please contact me for more information on Artists in Action and how you can help co-create the change you want to see. For more detailed program information, visit: www.empowermentworks.org

Please share this opportunity with other artists that wish to take a part in "Humanity Uniting".

Sincerely,
Dana Arak
