Ancient Ocean Floor Habitats, surrounding South Afrca

EdZiomek posted a new topic:

Folks, I am an amateur researcher, historical tourist, non academic, and my latest hobby is using satellite imagery to study the ocean floor habitats of ancient peoples.

Their roads, canals, convergences, city-scape areas, King/Queen wall portrait assemplies, even what appears to be temple complexes have been found down to 17,000 feet (Atlantic) to 16,000 feet, in your area. I can only guess that these habitats are 100,000 years old, or earlier.

Hope this inspires young historical and archaeological pursuits, like it has inspired me.

Note: Google Earth not only gives articulated ocean floor images, it also can be used to detect SUB-SOIL patterns of structures, in above ground areas, and ancient roads are in fact visible in one of the images I submitted.

As some people don't seem to send only their 'best' pictures and simply send everything they shoot, isn't it time you filter what's in the group?
Or better still, why don't you take out the ones YOU think are good (and promote our country) and put them in a separate gallery?
I see you don't even have one on your website!

i can echo the other two commens - I live in Bloubergstrand and the beach there is relatively safe - if you are doing sunsets you will be one of a few people, tourists and locals alike watching the sun set. Just be vigilant and aware of your surroundings.

mjenner10 posted a reply:

Yep, I don't think we'll do much venturing into the city-centre, we did the "touristy" things like the waterfront last time, we'll be spending more time with Demi's friends and enjoying the good weather, I'd like to go back down to Cape Point and Haut Bay again as they're really nice places to visit, probably take a picnic and make more of a day of it as last time it was a very short visit.

I'd like to try and walk up Table Mountain, but I was already wary of the Muggers on our last trip (there were 4 incidents in the months leading up to our trip in october last year), if I get time, I might try and get on an organised group walk though.

I know what you mean about Kirstenbosch, we went there last-time and although we got pretty high up the hill and it is certainly quiet up there and we were very wary as we had heard about the odd mugging up there (seeing as it backs onto the mountain) and didn't stay too long due to that concern, it's a real shame to have that thought in the back of your mind all the time, but I guess it's that mentality you need to have to be safe.

Regarding the tripod, I'd agree, actually that's pretty much what I do in Central London after dark! :)

I might ask our Demi's friend Craig (works in the SA fire service, at Simonstown I think) to go with us to keep watch when we try some Dusk photography in Cape Town as I think he'd be a bit more of an obstacle to a potential mugger than my Girlfriend alone! :)
