Hi, Jay. I've just joined this group, too.

My first love was b&w film photography, which I still love. I process my own negatives, and then scan them to computer. I'm a recent newcomer to digital photography, having got into micro 4/3rds in order to make good use of my extensive range of Zuiko lenses. I love mixing b&w film photography with digital colour and editing techniques.

I live in Dorset, in the UK, and have the benefit of living near beautiful coastline, as well as the New Forest, and other ancient places.

Hello, my name is Jay, and I live in the USA, just below the North Georgia mountains. I've been an amateur photography since my high school days. My main talent seems to be in landscape photography, but I also enjoy street photography, which is a new style for me. I just posted several of my shots, feel free to comment, I'm very interested to hear feedback. I'm always looking for new ways to improve my skills.

I was drawn to photography through photoshop, I edit, manipulate and correct images within my job and have done for about 12-15yrs now. I work for a printers in the pre press, pagelayout studio. I have been drawn into photography by my photoshop work, thinking why cant these people get the image correct from the camera....... how hard can it be........
I enjoy trying to get good images straight from the camera although always find myself tweaking them in photoshop and still love to experiment with textures and layers to generate a mood or effect in the final finished artwork.
Still loads to learn in photography and loving every part of it and finding that the photography is opening new areas of photoshop learning.

Photoshop is a great tool, with digital camera's its never been easier to get a good shot.I'm old skool i learned the hard way with a 35mm film slr lots of hits and misses and a small fortune in developing.photoshop is great for touching up,but you can get carried away and knowing when to stop especially if you have third party plugins.i use everything in the digital armoury of software.i used to think i was cheating but its not.all photo's in magazine's have had the photoshop treatment.

Photoshop, like any 'equipment' in photography is just that, a tool. I think as long as the work is represented properly and does not intentionally mislead/deceive it's fine(I'm speaking mainly of photojournalism here). I have a different program than PS but I use it in a myriad of ways: retouching, enhancing, cropping as well as building entirely new works(photo collage) and so forth. I make sure to point out what I have done, as far as the really reworked images are concerned.

who would see these painting in magazines and online if it wasnt for photographers?

and who would be able to paint some of the fascinating landscapes and far out places if it wasnt for photographers?

each is an art form in their own right, and shouldnt be disregarded by the other.

photography is harder to learn as it takes a good eye, whereas photoshop can be learnt and used to turn something not very good, into magazine quality.

It has a place in photography, but should be used openly and honestly if at all.
