Private gambling clubs were in operation in Europe in the 18th & 19th centuries in Paris, London and then later in Bad Homburg, Saxon Les Bains & Monte Carlo. Gambling also spread to the U.S. via the Mississippi River and after 1849 there were notorious establishments on the Barbary Coast in California. Where were the first casinos established in South America though, any ideas ?

The casinos are built to entertain people and to let them gamble, surely every one will agree that the casino chips are as important as the casino buildings, casino facades, casino surveilance and everything else inside the casino - table games, slot machines, accessories - including the people who work in the back office and in the floor are devoid without the casino chips.

The casino chips are the bread and butter of the casino in particular and of the industry in general and everything else revolve around them.

Thru the casino chips gambler goes home with one or two casino chips they visited - to show off to their friends and families back home - it means, it is an advertising medium for the casino too.

I am a chip collector - I collect and trade casino chips from around the world - through chips I travel far and wide in the globe - sometimes staying in my computer room and some other times I travel into and out of the casinos.

Depends on the casino - some let you take pics but no people pics - others no machines i.e. slots and table games - Four Queens in Downtown Vegas allows just about everything - its posted outside on a brass sign. I try to ask before getting hassled its easier to know their limits - Its private property inside and some copyrighted. Nothing to do with terrorism.

Anyone here ever been approached by casino security for taking pictures?

I was taking some shots of the rows of stuffed animal prizes at the Midway fun center at Circus Circus and a young security alerted a uniformed security to approach me. Apparently they think taking pictures of objects makes someone suspicious. I showed the younger guy my shots... nothing but lighted signs and neons and they were finally convinced that I was not a terrorist taking pictures of the building structure. Is photography that far off on the fringes of hobbies?

I understand these guys have to do their jobs. And they were both on the younger side of 30, so I won't behold a grudge against their somewhat confrontational and interrogative approach.

Well anyone have any interesting stories about their brush with law while being... a tourist?
