the 14-54 is nice and a little better than the kit lens and weatherproof. 70-300 is cheap $279 on amazon, but unless you need the range the 45-150 is a good all around or portrait lens. I dont have the 11-22 but it puts out some great photos. The 14-54 stays on my E500 or E1 most of the time. You can get one used on fourthirdsphoto dot com for $300 give or take.

11-22mm is great for landscapes and portraits for me. For portraits you have to be closer obviously, but its a very sharp lens. I love it. My next lens will be a 50-200mm though (if I can find one cheap enough). Good luck.

12-60 or 14-54 are 2 other options for you. Both have a decent wide focal length and are both sharp lenses that can be used for portraits as well. 14-54mm is the lowest priced of these lenses.

Well the needs for landscape and portraiture are typically not similar - wide to normal for landscapes and 100mm-ish (35mm equiv) for portrait. The 50-200mm zoom seems to be well regarded for use as a portrait lens (see dtnguyen.blogspot.com/2008/01/portrait-lens-zuiko-50-200m..., plus it's a good all-rounder and reasonable price too. Spending a bit more? Think about the 50mm prime.

For landscapes have a think about the 11-22mm zoom.

Hello, newby to this forum.
I have the olympus e-500 with the standard lenses.
I take mainly landscape pictures but also some portrait work, both inside and outside.
Having had the camera around two years I am looking at a possible lens purchase.
Possibly one that will serve as an all in one, bearing in mind money may be at a premium.
Thanks for any replies that may help.

Two new sigma lenses for 4/3.

I am in this group called Sigma 4/3. A member name liamwil3 posted this news.

Sigma anounced two new lenses
www.sigmaphoto.com/lenses/lenses_all_details.asp?id=3343&....
www.sigmaphoto.com/lenses/lenses_all_details.asp?id=3344&....

The first one comes as an alternative to the zuiko 11-22 but it is considerably darker (4-5,6) and the tele one is just the opposite, 2,8 for a 70-200 mm lens seems very promising.
No details of prices yet, any experiences will be welcomed.
