I attended the event and I don't know how they picked a winner because almost every shot I saw could have one the thing. Great event.

Posted pictures from 12/15/ 2012. Very high flow from 8 until 11am. Eagles seemed to watch and just let the gulls have at it. Flow was 10 or 11 gates so it was the highest in my 3 visits this year. As soon as the water calmed the eagles were active and stayed active for longer than I could stay. At least 2 hours. Not as constant as some prior years but a good day. In general Eagles seem to be at lower numbers. The Post article definitely brought out the sight seers. There were families and bird watchers in record numbers. Lots of questions about whether the Vultures were Eagles etc. Actually the activity was nice. Of 3 trips starting around thanksgiving this was the 2nd best but again the eagles seem to be thinning out. If you look at that lock and dam eagle counts for the Mississippi the core of engineers is reporting similar drops.

Thanks Derek. The days of Conowingo being a secret eagle place are long, long gone. One in which I never experienced. Also in regards to Washington there is an awesome photography exhibit right now at the Natural History Museum called Nature’s Best Photography which I had the pleasure of seeing Saturday. Here is the link www.mnh.si.edu/exhibits/natures-best-2011/index.html there is also a current photo contest going on now. I highly recommend if you all have an opportunity don't miss it!

In the 4 years I've been going to Conowingo I can't say I've experienced a dead day, always something interesting to photograph there. Sometimes it takes a little patience, luck and a little skill doesn’t hurt either. It may seem slow one minute and all of a sudden the next minute - WOW!!
