We visited Nagano for the first time last year and stayed in Matsumoto, which has one of the prettiest and most original castles in Japan. While there, we went out to Kamikochi for the day. I would highly recommend it if you like nature and can get out there on a weekday. We went on a weekend and while we weren't disappointed with the scenery, there were a lot of people.

I haven't visited Nagoya for a long time so can't really comment, but do remember that Toyota had a very nice museum. It's a little far from the centre if the city, though.

Hi, I'm planning to go see the cherry blossom in early April flying to Osaka first. So far I have planned to go up to Nagano to see the snow monkeys first, then down to Nagoya, Osaka and if I have time then a day trip to Kyoto. I know the Osaka and Kyoto areas pretty well but I'm not so familiar with Nagoya and Nagano, can anyone give me some pointers on what to do and where to go?

Any help will be much appreciated, thank you in advance.

I travelled from Fukuoka to Hokkaido in 2006, and Miyajima Island/Itsukushima is by far one of the nicest places I've been, some of the scenery there is fantastic.

I took this photo on a small compact camera, I wish I could go back with the DSLR I have now and take more!

My favorit place in Japan is definitely Kyoto. I have been there for many times and I'd like to go there more!
Two years ago, I had a few trips to Hokkaido. It's a wonderful place too. Quiet and cold in winter. Trees and mountains of beautiful colors and shapes!

Takayama is a great place. The old city houses some of the most breathtaking views on the nearby mountains. Especially in autumn it is a beautiful place. Also Hita no Sato where you can explore old countryhouses collected from all over Japan with amazing history. It's also a perfect place to explore trails and hikes for Kamikochi and the japanese alps. Friendly people and delicious food are an awesome extra. <3

Back when I was in the Navy in 2002, I got stationed in Yokosuka Naval Base. I was there for about 3 years and I had a blast!

The base was a half hour away from Yokohama and a little over an hour from Tokyo. I'm actually planning on going there this year. Saving for that trip right now and I can't wait to be there again. I love Japan!

I love Kyushu, esp. Fukuoka, Kagoshima, Miyazaki. So green and a warmer climate than further north.
