PHOTOGRAPHY COMPETITION:

“EUROPE SEEN BY ARABIAN GULF STUDENTS”

In the context of Europe's Day celebrations in the countries of the Gulf Cooperation Council in 2013, the Delegation of the European Union to the Kingdom of Bahrain, State of Kuwait, Sultanate of Oman, State of Qatar, Kingdom of Saudi Arabia and the United Arab Emirates announces the launching of a photography competition entitled "Europe Seen by Arabian Gulf Students".

Nationals of Gulf Cooperation Council countries are invited to submit personal photos of landscapes, architectural features and people taken during their time as students at schools or universities in one of the countries of the European Union.

The photos, not more than two per contestant, can be submitted by uploading onto the "Europe Seen by Arabian Gulf Students" group via Flickr™ (www.flickr.com/groups/europe_and_arabian_gulf/) or via Facebook© (www.facebook.com/europe.arabiangulf). Alternatively, the photos can be sent by e-mail to europeandarabiangulf@yahoo.com . Flickr™ and Facebook© terms of use will apply. Photo file names should indicate the locations in the European Union where the photos have been taken.

The deadline for submitting the photos is 31 March 2013 (11.59pm, Riyadh time).

The Delegation of the European Union shall determine winner eligibility at its sole and absolute discretion. To ensure eligibility for the contest, all digital entries must have a high resolution (ideally in JPEG format and greater than 2 MB).

Images will be judged on originality, technical excellence, composition, artistic merit and overall impact by a panel of European officials and Gulf art professionals. The judging panel will select up to 60 finalist photos which will be shown in public exhibitions across the Arabian Gulf region from May 2013 onwards. The judging panel will also select the Grand Prize Winner, the 2nd and the 3rd Prize Winners, and Honourable Mentions. Decisions made by the judges will be final.

Finalists will be presented with tokens of recognition and their photos will be advertised and acknowledged in the media. They will also be invited to attend the opening of the exhibitions in several Gulf Cooperation Council countries in the presence of European and Gulf officials (Locations and time intervals will be communicated in due course. The Delegation of the European Union will however not be able to cover any travel expenses incurred).

The owners of the selected photos will be asked to provide an entry form (which, among others, should attest their Gulf nationality and student status at a school or university in one of the countries of the European Union), and to sign a statement by which it is declared that they are the copyright owners of the photos submitted and that they agree with the use of their photos in public exhibitions, the media, on the europa.eu website and in other publications of the European Union, without any financial or material implications.

The Delegation of the European Union reserves the right to cancel, terminate, modify or suspend the photo competition at any given time.

Greetings of the day!

I have just come to Doha recently and was going to through photography culture here.. Been part of India weekend shoot and Mumbai weekend shoot...where all photographer comes together on weekend at a destination and shoot together..

However, I thought this idea would work here too for people to learn from each other and interact over photography understanding.

So I would propose that every weekend we can start the thread of the plce to shoot and we can go ahead to form the shoot head for coordination..

All photographers letme know your views on the same. Lets ahre and make a learning experience..
