Indie & Modern Rock

Focusing on a broad spectrum of music that calls the underground its home, this group is all about independent music. If you're into such bands as Pedro the Lion, Beulah, Guided By Voices, Jurassic 5, The Magnetic Fields, The Walkmen, Belle & Sebastian, PJ Harvey, and the like, then this is the group for you. If it's outside the mainstream, then we want to talk about it.

B&S philly concert 2006; photos?!

thisanjali posted a new topic:

Hello Belle and Sebastian Lovas!

So I have a question for you. Did anyone in this group attend the Belle and Sebastian concert in Philadelphia at the Electric Factory venue in March of 2006?!

I'm the girl who sang "Judy and Her Dream of Horses" at the end of the show. I'm hoping that by posting this here I might get some photos and, if I'm lucky enough, maybe a video of me on stage!

The only photo that I seemed to have found is this from roxydynamite's photo collection:

www.flickr.com/photos/roxydynamite/111431565/in/set-146260/

Any help would be appreciated! This is a rather late post being how that concert was four years ago haha, but hey, why not give it a go!

Thanks!

I'm sad you think live shots don't come across well in B and W....
You really ought to check out some of liveon35mm work......
or have a look at the fron cover to The Clash's London Calling.....
maybe we can change your mind!

I tend to process my images into high-contrast black and white when I don't have good light and color to work with, and process images in color when the light is better. I try to keep sets together, though - a particular show will be all color or all black and white.

The first one looks fine in color to me. Colorful lighting is a big part of live shows. Don't think that just because the subject is green, that it needs to be converted to B&W. Your audience will understand the context of the photo. But, it does look good in B&W as well. Photography is an art form. It doesn't always have to be exact or meet specific guideline. Part of being an artist is making that choice and creating your own style.

1st one b/w, 2nd either. It's really a matter of personal taste. I prefer b/w to color generally but it really depends on the shoot. There are some scenes that scream color, while other b/w.

One extra thing for live music plays, some times the stage is quite dark and photo colors have a lot of noise, then switching to b/w is really useful converting the noise to grain, but improving the general photo.

Also, depends on the story you want to tell. just my 2 cents.
