Hi Guys:
You should know that there is a local focus in being global. Ontario Library Association members have a new group set to capture, collect and share the Libraries of the World - OLA Super Conference Pool. It's part of the Annual Super Conference and details are here for you to get a glimpse of both the conference and the group's venture.

I'd like to join your group -I love to travel and visit libraries around the world. One of my most recent trips was to Singapore where I really enjoyed seeing the new Singapore National Library. It wasn't open when I visited so I checked out a branch and photographed the new building.

I just started a new group for the Library of Congress. There are a lot of great photos of LC on Flickr, especially of the beautiful Jefferson Building, and it seemed to me that there ought to be a place to share these.

Any pictures of outside or inside the three buildings are welcome: Jefferson, Adams and Madison.

Library Artworks -- This is the place for works of art in all types of libraries around the world. The includes paintings, statues, and similar works; architectural sculpture; stained glass windows; and other art objects that grace our libraries. The focus here is on works of art rather than library services, collections or architecture, and on work that is on permanent display rather than temporary art exhibits.

Dublin, Ireland

Megh Testerman posted a new topic:

While in Dublin this past spring we stopped in at 3 fantastic libraries.

Marsh's Library: Ireland's oldest public library built in 1701.The interior of the library with its beautiful dark oak bookcases each with carved and lettered gables, topped by a mitre, and the three elegant wired alcoves or 'cages' where the readers were locked with rare books, remains unchanged since it was built three hundred years ago. It is a magnificent example of a 17th century scholars' library.

There are four main collections, consisting of 25,000 books relating to the 16th, 17th and the early part of the 18th centuries. These are:

* 80 incunabula (books printed before 1501)
* 430 books printed in Italy before 1600
* 1,200 books printed in England before 1640
* 5,000 books printed in England before 1700

National Library of Ireland (NLI); At they time, they had an enormous James Joyce exhibit, including the 1st ever copy of Ulysses. Very cool.

The Long Hall at Trinity College: We went to see the book of Kells which is located in adjoining room. As you leave the Book of Kells exhibit you walk into the Long Hall. It takes the breath away.

Enjoy!
