I own both 1.4x and 2.0x TCs. 1.4x is fine, does not affect the IQ that much, you can see a lot harder background blur with the 2x TC.

Hey All,

Sorry for flooding the group pool, but I've just got a very good copy for my pentax k5IIs and its blown me away! I'm almost evangelical in my love for the thing :O)

Anyway, just thought I'd say Hi!

Maybe I got lucky and have a good copy of this lens, but mine does not behave this way. The focus of the lens isn't really speedy but it is fairly fast and silent.

It is a little softer at 150mm but the focus is still fairly sharp. The one issue I have with the lens is that it struggles near the minimum focus distance however.

I have not noticed any front focusing or noise though. I'm not sure if this is a problem with the camera struggling with focus or the lens but it is not normal perfomance. I've been using it with a nikon D7000 and D7100 camera.

Asquiff posted a reply:

Hi, yeah I've just bought one for my D90 and the focus behaves in a similar way, although it is much better in bright light and I think that it improved slightly after I cleaned the AF contacts.

I found that if I change the focusing to Single Servo (AF-S with Nikon cameras) focus locks okay, though this is far from ideal as I favour AF-C mode with back-button focus.

I'm still getting used to the lens but regarding sharpness and IQ, so far I'm getting a mixed bag of results. At first, like you, I thought it was a bit soft wide open at the long end, especially at 150mm but this weekend I managed to get some really sharp images at this focal length. I think that the focus distance plays quite a big part with images getting progressively softer the closer you are to the subject.

I'm tempted to contact Sigma to see how much it would cost to get the lens re-calibrated but I've heard that they will ask for you to supply the camera as well and I'm not keen to do that.

fscinico posted a new topic:

Hello all,
I purchased a used Sigma 50-150, version I, in Nikon mount. I use it with a Fuji S5 Pro. I've noticed two issues:
- between 100mm and 150mm, the lens front-focuses. Below 100mm, it seems fine. At 50mm it's very sharp and focuses fine, even at F/2.8;
- quite often, at all focal lengths, and even in bright light, the lens seems unsure about focus, and sounds like a machine gun, going back and forth until I release the half-pressed shutter button and try again. Is this normal for this lens?

Thank you

I just joined the club as well. A retailer was clearing stock so i bought mine with full 2year warranty and fully geared up for less than 500$ I consider this a bargain, what you think?

Did not have much chance to play around with this lens (bought it 2 hours ago LOL) but so far I find it a marvelous toy!
