A good work. It is not a masterpiece like "Aftermath" or "Exile" and so on...nonetheless It cointains some amazing songs, among them I wuold point "She's a Rainbow". Fantastic! :)

I guess we compare it to Sgt. Pepper because TSMR came out just after it, they each acknowledge the other on the covers, their psychadelic themes, and other similarities. Then there's the Stones vs Beatles thing but I like both best since both are different for their era

Mick himself said of his disdain of TSMR but I think it's a great album, especially if you're one of the lucky ones who got the 3D import cover. My fav is probably Citadel, but at least it's the only Stones album that Bill Wyman finally got to sing on (In Another Land)

I think Ruby Tuesday or Paint It Black for Brian Jones era, Brown Sugar, Rocks Off or Angie for Mick Taylor era, Shattered, Hand of Fate or Memory Motel for Ron Wood era. But still more favs

After Tattoo You they just lost their creativity or their in-fighting or solo agendas got in the way. The New Barbarians I think were really a good one-time thing but favor Micks solo career like when he did a great show with Tina Turner at the Live Aid Festival in '85

Now that they're around 70 years old I hope to see the Stones again before it's too late. Thankfully we have YouTube to see their stuff from beginning to last

Me too. Large collection of music, healthy amount of Stones & solo stuff, mostly b-side / deep cut type stuff. Mix of rock, blues, soul/funk, reggae, native... anything with a groove. Dig it www.notimewarp.com

I think although late era Stones songs that "Sart me Up" & "Out of Control" are brilliant but my old favourites must be "Satisfaction" and "Get off my Cloud"

Ideally the Stones should have followed Exile with nothing but covers same as Wyman's Rhythm Kings.
Theres plenty of them by little known blues singers. The Stones could have had a big one with Hesitation Blues
Today Mungo Jerry sound the way the Stones did in the 60s

No the expression "better than Sgt Pepper" has a totally different meanng to "compared to...." Its one of those stupid Rock Critic ones which has even used this to describe albums few have even heard.
"Lost the plot" means "not up to standard".Not just in music but in politics as well. The British Government is a prime example
