"À la sauvette" (street candid photography in motion)

This is not an award group, but a real gallery : you should look at the pool and i hope you'll discover great pics and photostreams. Members are encouraged to show their appreciation to other member's pics seen in the pool by leaving comments.

This intelligent and atmospheric urban capture, by bernache, has been voted by the members as the picture of the year 2012 and, hence, is the new icon 2013 for the group

====================================================

"À la sauvette" : a very ambiguous term, used by the famous french photographer Henri Cartier-Bresson for his most famous book, and rather improperly translated by "the decisive moment" in english.

"À la sauvette" means : something furtive and fugitive, a bit illegal, done with a sneak and swift efficiency, that won't let any trace. It's rather a way of taking some candid photographies, but with the intention to catch or rather steal what could be a decisive moment indeed. It's a kind of "shoot and run" photography, as the radics of "sauvette" come from "se sauver", which means "to run away"...
The "à la sauvette" photographers are neither stalker nor paparazzi. Their captures are made "par un heureux hasard", which means by chance, without too much "mise en scene" - however, this doesn't mean too quickly composed, super blur or badly framed photos. This is a photography based on spontaneity, but with a high sense of aesthetics and an outstanding composition.

There are already Flickr groups dedicated to Henri-Cartier Bresson's philosophy, like The Decisive Moment and Decisive Moments, but they are focused on the term of "decisive", which is not the case of this "À la sauvette" group.

The purpose of "À la sauvette" is partly to pay a tribute to a kind of candid and street photography inspired by Henri Cartier-Bresson, but not only him : Gilles Caron, Raymond Depardon, are some of the french leaders of this kind of "à la sauvette" photography - and there are plenty of disciples and masters (William Klein, Daido Moriyama, for example) all over the world.
But the group is not at all a catalogue of clichés and it's open to creativity

Basically, "À la sauvette" is a personal gallery of outstanding photos, more focused on the pool quality than on forums - that was its first purpose when it was created and it's sometimes difficult to maintain this high level of selection now that the group had met some success. So the selection lies on a big subjective concept : ultimately, beyond the topics and technical or artistical qualities of the photos submitted to the pool, the very subjective and sometimes mean tastes and point of view of the main admin will influence the final choice of featuring (or not) a picture submitted to the moderation pool... i know, it sucks...

RULES ( tougher than in the beginning ) :

1- Post pictures that are taken in a candid situation and that could show some beautiful, funny, interesting or uncommon situation, meaning more or less you've stolen a kind of decisive moment. These pictures should have at least three of these elements : humans, candid i-e-a no posed attitude of the models, motion and movement, aesthetic background and/or composition.
Kittens and other animals are not welcome, except if they fit for all the required composants.
Flowers, sunsets and other classical postcards-explore topics are not welcome, except if they fit for the required composants and are related to a main human subject in motion.

The flooding of pictures was the reason why pictures posted have to pass through an examination (moderation) before being accepted or not in the pool, or left in queue in the case of a rather borderline picture. The original nice habit of the admin to send a flickr mail to the people whose pictures have been accepted or rejected cannot be maintained, unfortunately, because there are too many pictures for a poor part-time admin. If you don't see your picture in the pool, please contact the admin via flickr mail or the discuss thread or submit your picture to the rest of the members through the "be the judge" thread.

2 Write topics, explaining the situation for pictures posted or asking people to guess what happened at that moment, because the spirit of the group is that every pictures "à la sauvette" has a story. This group is dedicated to imagination and fun.

3- Since there are no awards for the moment, you are not obliged to comment on the other pictures of the pool, but courtesy and simple intellectual curiosity will be appreciated. Please use the comment code, so as to show your appreciation and let the people think (and it's true, actually) that there are plenty of great photos in the group's pool - which is rather a true gallery than a simple dull pool, actually.

4- Please tag your pictures allowed in the pool with "sauvette" The poor lazy and half-time admin cannot do this for you. This tag will help people to find your picture in global search and will improve the reputation of "à la sauvette" group

5- There are no restrictions about the topics or nudity or political issues (Hey, there's enough censorship in Flickr anyway). However, this group follows the rules of an idealistic leftist french republic, that means that people who preach for a religion (yes american friends, this is forbidden in the french no god republic), for racist or antisemitic statements will be banned without warning.
People who tend to use the group's thread or pool for their own profit, like flashing their name or putting a lot of links to their websites, will be warned and/or banned. "à la sauvette" photography does not fit well with big egos, anyway...
The admin's patience could sometimes become limited, when a person try endlessly to have one picture in the pool and if this picture has been previously not accepted many times...
There are no technical restrictions. A picture digitally or manually post-processed or cropped could be accepted in the pool, provided it respects the required composants and the spirit of "à la sauvette".

ok, end of the votes.
We've got a winner.

photo #86, by bernache, had slightly more votes than its counterparts. If the photographer agrees with it, it will be the next group's icon.
Something a bit like this, i suppose :

thanks a lot for joining the vote. Much appreciated.
er, Linda, you voted for some of your own pictures (#3, #28)...
Ktoine, you also voted for your own picture (#25)...
ythomitic, you also voted for your own picture (#35)...
tsktsktsk

guys, can't you understand the fact fair-play (and humility) is a major component of the group (and of street photography, by the way)?
I would never even think of selecting one of my own picture in my "pic(k)s of the month" (despite the fact some could be on par with the other pics selected, despite the fact i could be proud of my own works sometimes), so please accept the rule of appreciating other photographers works - I must say i'm quite baffled (and a bit appaled) by this "I vote for myself" move...
