I have found a Singer 221K that is going to be in an estate sale tomorrow, and I have no idea what to look for before purchasing. I've posted pics in my stream, and it seems to be (as the seller claims), in mint condition.

I don't know what, if any, attachments come with it. What would be a fair price and what should I look for before buying?

Thank you!!!

Hi there.. again.. I just discovered that if I leave the spoolwinder on.. pressing the bigger weel.. then my machine works really slow and heavily.. Hopefully you have figured out whats the problem and are able to use your Featherweight.. I sew on mine every day.. I love the feeling..

These machines may be naturally slower than some newer machines, but if you find it to be excessively slow, you may want to have it professionally serviced. The grease and oil in an old machine can become quite thick and resistant, causing the machine to slow down. Also, I have tried to use mine straight out of a cold room where it was stored in the winter time, and found that it ran very slowly at first, but speeded up as the oil and grease warmed.

I think that it is slow.. I have sewed professionally... and when I bought my Bernina.. I found it very slow.. but the Featherweigt is even slower.. I enjoy sewing on it though.. It is so beautiful and even if it is slow.. its perfect for piecing quilts on it.. I love mine.. and for the first time I think that a piece of metal is fantastic.. beautiful..
So enjoy your machine and take a slower pace.. in life.. You might discover things you would miss if you keep up the speed..
I am recovering from a bad burnout.. and a few years ago I would have gotten all stressed up about the slow speed.. but now I enjoy it.. You try that too..

Hi,
I just scored a great featherweight at a estate sale. It didn't have the foot pedal with it so I ordered a new one. I just got it yesterday and the machine works like a champ but the speed seems really slow. Is this normal for a featherweight? What am I doing wrong or is it the foot pedal? PLEASE RESPOND!
thanks

You can look up the serial number here:
www.singerco.com/support/serial_numbers.html

That should tell you when and where it was manufactured. :)

Thanks for the invitation to join this group!

I have had my Singer Featherweight for about 3 years and keep it set up in the guest room rather than in my sewing studio. I like the idea of seeing it on a daily basis!

Mine is the Centennial Edition, born in 1950 for 1951 sales.... It came with the original case and some attachments. I would really like to find a pressure foot with teflon coating if it exists; I haven't been able to track one down. Anyone know where one might be located?
