I was just at the Salton Sea State Park area. I camped at Salt Creek campground. Yes, it smells, but you can catch some nice sunsets!!

So, greetings from the Salton Sea!

Back in the early 60's our family had a cabin at Bombay Beach. I remember it was a nice place back then. Hunting, camping, and fishing and mineral pools. Our cabin was on the border and at night we could see the flashes from the bombing range. It's sad to see it today.

One can smell Salton Sea 50 miles away and okay, that is part of the reason there is no town. The desert towns in this part of the world are pretty desolate, but not too dissimilar from desert towns in NV or over near US 66.
I've been shooting panoramas out there among the bombing ranges and atomic weapons sites for 20 years, and this part of the US is pretty quiet and underpopulated except when planes roll in to drop bombs..

Another vote for Joshua Tree – in addition to the beauty of the desert and rock formations, there is all kinds of weird art stuff hidden away out there. I highly recommend visiting Noah Purifoy's "Outdoor Museum" around sunset for some unreal scenes.
