Cinematic Photoshop Post Processing Help Wanted

eldejo posted a new topic:

Hey Guys,
I've just finished a tutorial hoping to get the same cinematic look that I see from many of the photos on this group.
This is the tutorial:
fototutoriales.com/consigue-efecto-pelicula-en-tus-fotos/

However, my attempt has fallen short, especially compared to what I see in this group's stream. I would really appreciate it if you could give me some advice on getting the image more "cinematic."

Here's the photo resulting from the above tutorial...
www.flickr.com/photos/eldejo/7621421504/in/photostream

Thanks for all your help!

To me, "cinematic" is a style of photography that resembles an image that would be seen in a movie. Of course, the "style" of the cinematic image is going to be relative to what kind of movies you enjoy.

Myself, I like movies that pull influence from Graphic novels such as Zack Snyder, as well as some unique colors and effects from people like Tim Burton. As a result, a lot of my work has somewhat strange hues and my photos are always heavily edited using Gimp. I do gimp tutorials for these effects if you would like to check them out.

What makes an image cinematic

Damian (www.damianburcher.com) posted a new topic:

Hi

Stumbled on a few Cinematic groups by accident, great photos and it has inspired me to work on making my own photos more cinematic. So I have a few questions that I would like some help with please.

I know it when I see it but I'm not sure what makes an image cinematic?

What's the difference between cinematic photography and say urban street photography.

Can you do cinematic photography of any compositional style/genre i.e close ups, animals, what makes the best cinematic photography.

What's the best way to process an image to make it cinematic.

Any other general tips and advice or names of books to look at?

Thanks in advance.

Lupe Jelena posted a new topic:

I just posted a picture, and started browsing through the group. I found that there are some vertical shots. I understand that the authors of the pictures may like the action in them, and think they feel cinematic, but isn´t cinema always horizontal? Doesn´t a vertical shot defeat the whole purpose of a picture looking like a movie still?
What do you think?
