Greetings. Van improvised some opinions.

Besides its final aesthetic result, more or less successful, the essence of this format is its contribution to the photographic language.

Our contemporary world vision and reality are largely based on the language of film, using a long-standing 1.66x1 or 1.85 x1 to give an epic character to the action genre, westerns, etc. This we already built to the memory and the images stored in the brain.

Collect or frame also allows better movement, and is even able to recreate it from a static image which incorporates that sense of time, sequence, motion, ultimately reinforced by the action of sliding the left to look right at the newly created image.

I've just completed a final major project on a university course and I did Triptyhes based on student living, this is the first time I've used tryptches and I think I will continue using them. I use Photoshop to piece them together. I've just uploaded my first in a series of 13 which I will carry on adding over the next few days

I just found this great new software that automates the creation of diptychs and triptychs (and contact sheets) in Photoshop. You have to have a Mac, though, but it gives you a ton of other automation things, too.

This mainly is about Henry Holiday's puzzles (that I accidentally stumbled over in in December 2008) in Lewis Carroll's The Hunting of the Snark. What do you think?

Is there an appropriation chain: anonymous -> Millais -> Holiday -> Parsons ?

Lets start with a tryptich

[left]: Henry Holiday's depiction of the Baker's visit to his uncle (1876) in Lewis Carroll's "The Hunting of the Snark". Outside of the window are some of the Baker's 42 boxes.

[right top]: John Everett Millais: Christ in the House of His Parents (1850).

[right bottom]: Anonymous: Edward VI and the Pope, An Allegory of Reformation, mirrored view (16th century). Under the window 2nd from left is Thomas Cranmer who wrote the 42 Articles in 1552.

I assume, that Millais took reference to the 16th century building not as a plagiarist but in order to make a statement. And I also assume, that Henry Holiday took reference to both paintings when he illustrated Carroll's "The Hunting of the Snark" (see also http://artpop.snrk.de)

Alfred Parsons' depiction of Charles Darwin's study.

Did Alfred Parsons quote shapes from Henry Holiday's illustration to The Bakers Tale in Lewis Carroll's The Hunting of the Snark? The match of each single shape could be quite incidental, but the the topological relation of most shapes to each other matches well too. That is less likely to be just incidental.

I am not sure whether Parsons quoted from Holiday. But surely he toyed with his drawing of Darwin's study:

As I was travelling to Miami, I did several pictures paying attention to colour. Then I arranged them in triptychs. what do you think of them?

Tropical green

Chromium blue

Beach blue

Pastel green

Flamingo pink
