Disney Extinct Attraction Graveyard

"Old attractions never die, they get immortalized on Flickr"

This is a place to post photos of attractions that no longer exist at one of the Disney theme parks.

Here is the code the group follows:

1) Only post photos of attractions that no longer exist. The rule is simple: If you can still take a picture of it, please don't post it here (there are many other Disney groups on Flickr).

2) Only post photos of attractions that are truly gone (attractions under extended rehab should not be posted until their demise is confirmed).

3) Please tag your photo with the name of the park, resort and attraction it is associated with. You can check out this thread for suggested tags.

If you like us and want to stay and relax. Please introduce yourself here.

Finally, if you would like to share Disney experiences with other folks on Usenet check out news://rec.arts.disney.parks or find us at our Flickr home.

The admins reserve the right to remove pictures that don't adhere to the guidelines.

Updated December 20, 2006: I changed the description to show that we follow a code rather than rules. Why? I think Captain Barbossa said it best: "The code is more what you'd call "guidelines" than actual rules."

I've always thought that if the original Tiki show needed editing, it would have been a lot better to cut out the "singalong" part of "Let's All Sing Like The Birdies Sing" because that (along with a Bing Crosby imitation by Jose) is what *really* dates the show. Audience singalongs went out with the days of Mitch Miller and even one like me who is no fan of UNM can admit that this part of the original show can be a cringe-inducing moment because when was the last time *anyone* joined in? Cut out that part and leave the Offenbach part in because at least that has a witty pun to set it up, "You stay offen my back and I'll stay offen yours!"

I have heard rumors that they are going to demolish Toon Town and put a Fantasyland 2 in it's place. Has anyone else heard about this change? Please let me know. Thanks, Bambi

epaddon posted a reply:

I have to say that while I wish the Skyway was back, I am glad that they finally tore down the Tomorrowland station because an abandoned building serving no viable purpose is in many ways much more cruel for those who miss what used to be there than just seeing it ripped out altogether. Infuriating as the loss of 20,000 Leagues Under The Sea was, an abandoned lagoon for ten years was even worse than Pooh Playground.

The thing that makes the loss of a Skyway or a 20k or a Mr. Toad's Wild Ride (or the original version of the Hall Of Presidents program, which I'm still bitter about to this day) tragic though is because these were attractions that didn't HAVE to go. They were not attractions on the order of "Mission To Mars" suffering from the creaky effects of a decades out of date approach to the subject. These were the ones that I *EXPECTED* to always be there as rock-steady reminders of what could always co-exist among the new things being added. And the fact that these would go the way out of impulses rooted strictly in cost-cutting or greed (as Pooh is in its replacement of Toad, given how half of the space was turned over to yet another gift shop, as if we didn't have enough of those!) is what still rankles someone like me who found WDW from 1975-1993 a magical place on all levels, and who found the same place in 2004 to be a place that was suddenly devoid of the old magic.

mgmcinnis, it's not that I'm mad necessarily, it's just that I'm sad to see it go.
I have faint memories of my childhood at WDW, because it seems like all the rides I grew up with are dissapearing.
It's just hard to see it go is all, but it's gone now, so I'm glad I still have pictures at least.
I say a small cafe goes there, and a deck on top.

also, if anybody has information on where the skyway buckets from the WDW skyway went, PLEASE tell!

You're mad because they tore down a building that hasn't been used for 10 years/
You're mad because they didn't leave the building up long enough to 'celebrate' the fact that they hadn't used a building for 10 years?

I'm not 100% certain what building they tore down, but it seems to me that they kept it up 10 years longer than they needed to. Maybe they did think about it--for 10 years.

Yep, this building is officially doomed to the fate of un creativity...they tore it down.
What a shame.
They wanted to "improve" the view of the "improved" Space Mountain, even though this was completely out of the way of the view. It was such a beautiful, innocent, historical building, and it goes down like this. It could have had a different fate. At least since there was no chance of the Skyway ever coming back, they could have easily turned it into a nice restaraunt with a nice deck on top for a good view. Disney needs to think before they tear stuff down. It was almost time to celebrate this building's 10-years-dormant birthday, but nope, it was cut short of that too. disgusting
