You can't climb Mt. Fuji in February - climbing season is pretty much mid-July to late August.

Anyway, I'm guessing you're not interested in climbing, you just want some good shots of the mountain, am I right?

If that's the case, winter is a great time to do it; it'll be covered in snow, and the air will be clear for miles around (esp. in the morning) for good visibility.

As far as spots go, there are 5 lakes surrounding the mountain, conveniently called "Fuji Five Lakes". Your guidebook will have all the details, I'm sure. Of the five, Yamanaka Lake is probably the best spot to get those early morning shots. It's east of Mt. Fuji, so the whole mountainside should catch the sunrise and glow right back at you. Good luck, and enjoy your trip!

I took the FUJINOMIYA trail. for the reason that you can really see the shadow of mt. fuji during sunset in 6,7,8th station beside it is the longest trail so meaning more view more spot.. Don't worry the view at the summit because you can actually tour 360 at the crater or summit.. I suggest take your time or spend a night in 6th station or 7 for the best sunset view, the climb to the top before sunrises for the best sunrise view..

I'm taking my first trip to Japan this February 2010. I'm excited about seeing and photographing Mt. Fuji while I'm there.

Can anyone suggest a good spot for photographing Mt. Fuji?
