A big welcome to 'Photoshop is not a dirty word', and in addition a big thanks to all the contributors who make this group what it is.

The group is for images that you've created, edited, manipulated or cropped in Photoshop or a similar package. This group isn't really about rules and regulations; we don't want to tie you in knots.

The group is moderated regualrly to keep the size manageable so please don't be miffed if contributions are taken out from time to time.

We do ask is that you don't use the pool as a dumping ground for every picture in your pool and that on occasion you take the opportunity to comment on other people's pictures and promote the pool across flickr

If you want to invite photo's to the pool there's code below to allow you to do that. Feel free to comment if you want to. All we ask is that you post your best and invite the best; the quirky and the interesting shots.

This group is about sharing Photoshop pictures and techniques, Before and after pictures are most welcome. If you can comment on the technique you used so much the better. Lets learn from each other and post some cracking pictures.

Commenting on other photos

Please take the time to comment on the other photos when you can as a courtesy.
If you'd like to invite other Flickr members to participate in this group you may copy and paste the code below into the comments you make on that users photos:

Tutorial – How to Use the Clipping Mask in Photoshop

The Clipping Mask is a simple tool to use in Photoshop. It remains largely unused because so many folks just don’t understand how to use it.

Basically it works with just two layers. In the Tutorial here I’m using a Flag in the upper layer and a USA Font in the lower layer. Once it is all adjusted to fit you simply click on “Create Clipping Mask” in the Layers Palette and Photoshop clips the flag inside the Font and puts it all on a Transparent background for you. I put some samples in here so you can see some of the other things you can do with this tool.

The Photoshop Tutorial for this is HERE

Hi,

It has been less than an year since I bought my first dslr.

I have been auto-correcting the exposure in Google Picasa so far, but now I want to move beyond that, and I would appreciate any help in that.

There are a lot of posts and books about how to process and touch certain photographs, but I wanted to know what real experts did in real life, and why.

I have posted a few pictures I took in this set - www.flickr.com/photos/obelcontinuous/sets/72157632982242117/ . I would really like to know what kind of processing/retouching you would apply on them and why. I would be very grateful to learn from your expertise.

Looking forward to your feedback,
Hey fellow flickr friends - im not sure what to do after this.

- What kind of background can I put the angry apple in?
- how do I remove the highlights around the edges of the body?
- how can I blend the lips more into the apple?

Any other advice would be much appreciated

Prior to buying a CS6 licence I used Ps7 for many years, I do basic editing and layered collages. I do like the way CS6 uses tabbed images and I do like it's speed, much faster than 7.

The gimmicky tools like the quick selection tool etc only work with under certain circumstances and then only if you are lucky. After trying them, as you do, I went back to paths and smooth etc.

On the whole though I do prefer it to 7.

photoshop- No image preview on Open dialog box in CS6

sandkicker_oinc posted a new topic:

Subject posted in Photoshop.com forums "photoshop- No image preview on Open dialog box in CS6"
Not sure if anyone cares or not, but it is just for info in the event some are waiting for a fix to the subject issue. The preview pane I know was in CS3 and CS5 but has been removed in CS6 intentionally.

It appears according to Photoshop.com forums, that the loss of image preview is caused by Adobes bending to the wishes of OS vendors, both Microsoft and APPLE. It's be cited in the forum that that there will be no forthcoming fix. If you want to preview a PSD image it will be necessary to hopefully utilize a third party codec.

I use the image preview as quite often, when working on a photo and saving all its layers as a PSD.
Just glad I did not deactivate/remove CS5, as I am using CS5 more and CS6 less.

Again, this is just info if anyone is interested.

Photoshop Tutorial – How to change Backgrounds behind a Tree

This Tutorial resulted from RubyBlossom entering an original photo of a large tree into the DUC Challenges. Since the background was nothing but sky, as is the case with most trees, I saw an opportunity to use a much overlooked tool which has been in Photoshop for some time, The Color Range Tool, which resides in the Select Menu.
This tool can be a bit tricky to use and it make take more than one try at it before you are satisfied I think you will have to agree that it has vast potential.

I did download the version CS3 in order to apply my "TOPAZ" and "alian skin" plug ins; the CS3 did not come from Adobe... (they don't sell that version no more), anyway, I could use it only for one month. So I bought (also recently) the version CS5.5. This did not came cheap at all ! But the policy of Adobe seems to be that you only can purchase the latest versions! At that time, they did not speak about the comming version CS6! I recieved a mail from adobe, that I could upgrade towards CS6 for free... they did not value there promise, in spite of a few phone calls and mails. Never the less, I'm pleased with the CS5.5, so much faster! So much to discover! The program takes a lot of space indeed, but the works you make take even more space. Since my hard disk was getting full, I bought me an external HD capable to store 2TB, so space was not longer an issue. If 3D objects are a topick to you, why not go to "POSER"? Me, I wont go to POSER: I've got enough on my plate to master the CS5.5!
