This group is about your city\'s television tower, in fact, it\'s about any television tower. Besides, i thought about leaving just the title without any description, because, look, television tower, this should make clear everything, shouldn\'t it? See.

Heh guys, yesterday I started a flickr group on Radio Towers

www.flickr.com/groups/radio_tower/
you are welcome to join it also!

... and I espescially welcome any information on the social/political dimension of towers

Today a friend showed me your TV towers group :)

Historically, I think there was an evolution from radio to tv towers, yes ;) if we are scientific we may perhaps say "radio and tv towers"

btw I liked this article on Radio Towers and revolutions, 1991, Baltics, soviet empire:
The history of the Television Tower of Berlin is directly connected with the historical situation of the division of Germany into two parts and the division of the city of Berlin. The former GDR saw the necessity to build a powerful transmitter in the middle of the eastern part of Berlin and in addition to this the Television Tower was meant to become an architectural and political symbol. It was in 1969 when SED leader Walter Ulbricht after long discussions decided not to build the Tower on the "Müggelbergen", a place in Berlin-Köpenick where the construction of a Tower had already begun, but on the Alerxanderplatz. In connection with the "Palast der Republik" a remarkable and representative monument was to be erected. It took only 53 month to build the "sozialistische Höhendominante" and on October 3, 1969 the Television Tower of Berlin was put into operation. After the reunion in 1990 the Tower did not loose its attraction. At the turn of the year 1995/96 the inside of the Television Tower was renovated and the technological standard was completely renewed. Now the visit of the television Tower of Berlin is even more pleasurable. Each year about 1.000000 people visit the Tower and enjoy the atmosphere and the great view from the top of it.
