vlad78uk posted a reply:

Its honestly rubbish. I couldn't believe my eyes when I saw it - initially I though it to be a bad, bad joke but alas.

Where do I start? To begin with, the site is buggy. Favourites won't load. IF they load at all, you can view them any way you like, as long as its "justified". The whole screen fills up with an endless stream of photos, all of them jammed tightly together and fighting for space and attention. The whole point of having them separated by white spaces was to showcase the photographs! This is simply horrid - like a mishmash of Google image search, Instagram and god knows what other terminally trendy "social" app. The same applied to viewing photos in pools until recently - any way to look at them as long as its justified.

The black space surrounding a photo, when you look at each one individually. What's going on there??? Its crowded, unintuitive, garish, not easy on the eye at all.

Its almost like the whole site was redesigned by Facebook. Seriously. And this is just the beginning. Its a PITA to navigate too....and it used to be my favourite site, one where I'd spend a great deal of time.

The whole point of Flickr was that it WASN'T Facebook & all. It was a site for serious photography, with a very strong (and I would say pretty unique) community attached to it. It was about photographs, photographers, photo-geeks and so on. Now it looks like its about volume. I'm afraid they really killed it this time.

Judging by the backlash on their official thread I'd say I'm not the only one who thinks that.

I think it is absolutely godawful. This is not even in the same stratosphere as what I originally paid for. I did not pay to have all my photos mashed together into a collage, leaving me with zero control of the flow. This is not the way I wish to present my work. It looks terrible, and I am aghast that they have implemented these changes with ZERO consultation. I feel completely violated.

I like the new layout. The groups are the main thing that's kept me here so I'm really pleased that the main part of the site has had a refresh.

The best thing about Flickr was always the community I found in groups like this. For presentation, 500px and SmugMug were loads better. Obviously Flickr is trying to compete with those services. Anyway, as long as my group aren't too screwed with, I'm okay.

Do wish you could put sets on the front page though

It's a good place to put a pic of a strip of negatives from a Trip 35, which is what I've done :-)

I'm not much of an attention whore but I'm not sure how the homepage will reflect the most recent activity on my pics (sure I can click into that but I used to like having it presented on a plate in my home view).

Tigersight posted a new topic:

What do you think of this new format? Don't mince your words. I have not found it to be very difficult to use or figure out but I do hate the graphic design (if you can even call it that). Having a montage of all those photographs butting right up against each other and not having the option of having your sets on your homepage does not please me.
My homepage now is a busy riot of photographs that is just overhwhelming. No one wants to look at that. Let's have some nice space between the photographs and a dedicated area for set and/or group icons.

The strip at the top where you are supposed to load a photograph is the biggest joke of all. Only about 1/2 of 1% of my photos have a horizontal strip of such dimensions that would actually look good there and be somehow representative of what I do. Oh sure, we could all find some sky or meadow to stick in there but, then, again, they only gave us a choice from our latest bunch of photos. If you want to load anything else up there in that spot you have to redate the photo and bring it to the front of the line.
