Hi Sam
I have only just joined this group so have not seen you question before.
I own a Sigma ring flash, and find it a very good piece of kit. In answer to your question have a look on my photostream at the macro shots on there, then come back to me with what proportion of the shot were taken using the flash, I think it will answer your question.

A ring flash is right at the top of my to-buy list, i think it'll be invaluable; my experience with other flashes is that sometimes the sharpness it gives macro pictures works really well, but of course it depends on the individual shot.

Does any one use a sigma ringflash . I want to purchase one for faster shutter speed and oviously the benefit of hand held insect photography, But worry that the flash would be to strong. I whould rather use natural light but this flash has its benefits.. if it works well ?
