There're several different dye processes in textile printing,reactive/pigment/disperse/acid dye. For the natural material, we usually use reactive dye or pigment dye. The main advantage in reactive dye over pigment dye is there is more depth in color and washability with reactive dye. Also the enviroment friendly character is counted as another point of reactive dye. Pigment dye has its advantage too, its easy to handle and its widely used for not only natural material also polyester and other man-made material and its cheaper than reactive dye. But strickly speaking, pigment dyeing is not actually dyeing at all, since it only coats the outside of the material, rather than fully penetrating it like a dye would. But it is easier for crafters to use pigment dye for DIY.Reactive dye can be challenging to work with and more expensive than conventional fabric dyes, but many crafters prefer them.
