South Dakota voters have a real chance this November to end the nightmare that is the state abortion ban. I want to do everything I can to help, so I'm going to a potluck with a bunch of my friends. But, just a comment...I was with a friend from Romania who lived under Communist rule for most of his life. He was also involved during the 1989 - 1990 revolution when the Communist government was overthrown. His remarks - "I am amazed that the police are not shooting."

He told me of a story from the Communist years. A female relative was diagnosed with cancer. During treatment, she was also found to be pregnant. She asked for an abortion, as the cancer treatment would create birth defects, but the State official denied the abortion. The official also ordered that the cancer treatment stop. She was forced to continue the pregnancy, delivered a child, and died soon afterward from cancer. My friend was told that the relative should be considered a hero of the Romanian state. The child is mentally retarded.

For those of you in San Francisco Saturday, please join us at the Powell Street Bart station next to the coffee stand, just before the outside escalators at 10:00am. Eric and I will be hanging out there until about 10:30. The rally starts at 10 and the march at 11am.
