Lauren was on my mind last week, for some unknown reason, so it's nice to see her recognized for her work here once again. Edelman Gallery representation was was an important affirmation of her talents.

Vey sorry to hear this news- she was an inspiring photographer, and one of the most original talents I've come across on flickr. I enjoyed her her beautiful but enigmatic dioramas and still lifes very much. Her work is unique, but very much in the menacing dark Surrealist tradition.

I am so sad to hear of her death. I only just discovered her wonderful work on Flickr and immediately became an admirer. Thank you for posting the link. I watched the video--she was brilliant.

I also found this from a close friend of hers on a bulletin board:

She'd been hospitalized earlier in the year, and more recently she had a bad fall down the stairs in her house (although I don't think that was a directly a cause of her recent passing.) More than anything I feel like she was a casualty of the lack of there being any sort of safety net in our country for those most in need of basic healthcare--particularly mental healthcare.

I think this might be the real reason, her bike accident:

Anniversary 2012 (#17)

Happy 17th Anniversary to me.
3/5/95 I was run over by a car (Honda Civic) on the lower east side (not intentionally). Went up, over, partially through the windshield, back out again and bounced off the curb. (So I'm told.) There were a number of broken bits but the doctors were amazed I had no concussion. They said it was because it appeared I had a thicker than average skull. Just what I always wanted, for my mother to have medical proof. I consider it a happy anniversary.
(And yes, this one does have a little digital. :D
