I'm with the others, he was good, but he didn't really try too hard for the Reds team. It seemed like he spent more time injured & on the bench than actually playing, and if I remember right, he wasn't too excited to be a Redleg (though I could be very wrong or confused with another player).

Junior put up average numbers when he was here in Cincinnati. His trade tore up the nucleus of a playoff team and we haven't been the same since. By the end of is time here, he wanted to play somewhere else anyway. Seemed like a good trade at the time, but it was a flop. You can't miss a guy who didn't want to be here. He just wasn't a team player.

Down to the basics.
Griffey was not going to have a chance to win a ring in Cincy. Taking too long to get a team that can go to the series and win. Griffey won't last long enough to see it.

The Reds will be able to push the young guys to get to a place where they can go to the series in a few years and win. If they young guys play every day and have confidence in themselves and each other. The Team needs a solid roster that stays the same every day.

I just hope this will help both the Reds and Griffey.

Do I Miss Jr.? Yes and No. I missed Jr. in 89 when he was playing for Seattle. I wanted him on the Reds the entire time he played baseball. But he was always a player the Reds traded for after Griffey made his mark. I loved to watch him play. On the other hand Griffey had gained a lot of weight over the last few years and that was affecting his swing. He didn't seam to be trying to get in prime playing condition for the Team. Especially when he was expecting a new contract to be picked up. I was always a Griffey fan but the players I was most sorry to see go over the past few years was Larkin and Casey. Larkin was drafted by Cincy went all through the minor league system on the Reds and played his entire carrer in the queen city. He was the Team captain and was Not picked up for his final year. Players and Teams are not sentimental or has loyalty like the teams of the 50's and the past. I'm the most surprised that he went to the White Sox. I know they are continders but Chicago? I thought he wanted to go back to Seattle or the Rays or someplace he had roots. I wish Griffey luck but I know it gives the young players of Cincy the opportunity to grow and shine themselves. Cincy needs to build and give the young guys a chance to get confidence and know they have the position every day. I was tired of seeing the outfield full of guys that should be playing every day and having to see them sit. I hate to see Griffey go but I hope that Grif has a chance to win a Ring and the Reds have a chance to go to the series in a few years and maybe get the machine going again.

Does anyone feel like Jocketty and the rest of the front office use the old excuse of "we are rebuilding" every time we give up a big name for youngsters. I could see that if we totally cleared house.
Anyone realize that about the time these guys mature, Harang, Arroyo, Dunn, Phillips, Encarnacion and any other 'veteran' will be gone and sent away for another rebuilding group.
Will it ever end???

Yes, I do, and the Reds made a big mistake trading him. He was the star attraction of the Reds and with him gone to the White Sox, ticket sales will plummet and attendance will decrease. Things will never be the same again in Cincinnati without him. That's how I see it.
