Sherpa of Nepal Project - Please take a minute!

intolerance4you posted a new topic:

Hi Everyone!
A very good (and talented) friend of mine is attempting to receive a photo-journalist grant to document the Sherpa of Nepal. This is a very interesting and compassionate assignment and I hope you will take the time to vote for it at:

www.nameyourdreamassignment.com/the-ideas/thekingfish/god...

He needs at least 400+ votes in the next few days, so please take the minute to register and vote! It means a lot to him and to me! Please repost!

Sincerely,
Dana

(the description is below)

Gods of the Heavens

Sherpa people of Nepal are some of the worlds best unknown athletes.

We pay athletes millions of dollars a year to perform feats of human endurance and skill. We celebrate their ambition and commitment to their sport. But whom have we forgotten? In our safe industry of entertainment that encourages a sense of elitism and individualism, we have ignored those athletes that have no hubris for their feats, that are paid next to nothing, and that are called "guides" for the western tourists. The Sherpa people of Nepal are not only committed to their sport, they are dedicated to their families and their communities. They choose to climb the world’s highest peaks, time and time again, just to put food on their table. These are the true world-class athletes that deserve celebration, that deserve recognition, that deserve respect.

Through a photo-journalistic assignment, I will travel to Nepal in order to interview and document these super athletes who have unmatched knowledge of the high country, and unwavering endurance. I hope to raise awareness for these unknown "Sherpas" who receive next to nothing to guide the rich through treacherous natural obstacles. If we are to celebrate people for their endurance and skill, these are the most deserving. They don't perform for fame, for glory, or for money; they perform for survival.

Humanity Uniting Art Event: Art for Social Change

Humanity Uniting Art Event: Art for Social Change

My name is Dana Arak. I am the Committee Chair for Artists in Action of Empowerment Works, a Non-Profit Organization. I recently posted a request for art for an event in Los Angeles. Well, the date has been solidified:

April 25th at Fifth Floor Gallery in Chinatown

We still need artists who are committed to "harnessing the passion of the arts to support community-based solutions" to donate at least one piece for the event. We had a great response from the flickr community around the world and we hope to create a mutually supportive collaboration of artists and art groups!

We invite you to become part of the movement for our latest series: Humanity Uniting.
Your artwork will be for sale or auction and the proceeds generated by your donated pieces will directly support Empowerment Works' programs: Julia's Home of Happy Colors orphan care program in Zimbabwe and The Global Summit.

In addition to advancing both these grass-roots and global impact solutions, the value of your donated art will be tax deductible, and of course, you and a guest will receive a VIP invite as an Artist in Action.

Thank you for taking the time to consider this request. Please contact me for more information on Artists in Action and how you can help co-create the change you want to see. For more detailed program information, visit: www.empowermentworks.org

Please share this opportunity with other artists that wish to take a part in "Humanity Uniting".

Sincerely,
Dana Arak
Artists Needed! Humanity Uniting: Invitation to Participate

intolerance4you posted a new topic:

I came across this group and thought it was a wonderful collaboration of images. Specifically, the images expressing how humanity can unite to create a sustainable future for all living things (and images that portray why this is important) are of interest. I want to reach out and invite any of the artists that want to celebrate humanity uniting to get involved in co-creating the change you want to see in the world!

Empowerment Works, the non-profit I work with, is putting together one-night Gallery Events in Los Angeles. We need Artists from all over the world to donate at least one piece each on HUMANITY UNITING. The Gallery Events start in Spring. The art will be sold with proceeds going to our Zimbabwe Orphan Care program and our newest program: The Global Summit. Plus, it's tax deductible. These events will be amazing (and great promotion for the artist and their commitment to making this world a better place for all). Please contact me if you would like to donate. Pass the information on so we can have some fantastic nights of art and inspiration!

Here is the Invite:

INVITATION TO PARTICIPATE
ART EVENT:
HUMANITY UNITING

Dear Artist:

My name is Dana Arak. I am the Committee Chair for Artists in Action of Empowerment Works, a Non-Profit Organization.

"Harnessing the passion of the arts to support community-based solutions" since 2001, Empowerment Works would love to promote you as an Artist in Action.

We invite you to become part of the movement by donating at least one piece of artwork for our latest series: Humanity Uniting.

The events will be a held as one-night invite-only Gallery fundraisers. Your artwork will be for sale or auction and the proceeds generated by your donated pieces will directly support Empowerment Works' programs: Julia's Home of Happy Colors orphan care program in Zimbabwe and The Global Summit.

"Julia's Home of Happy Colors" was established in Harare, Zimbabwe 2002 in partnership with African social entrepreneur, Julia Kunzekwenyika to provide comprehensive care for vulnerable children - and continues to do so through home-based care and community project support and scholarships for AIDS Orphans in Zimbabwe's destitute rural areas.

The Global Summit™ (TGS) annual event series is a new worldwide call to action uniting the world's most dedicated social and environmental change makers to advance local solutions to humanity's most pressing global challenges. TGS will take place in a different region of the world every year.

In addition to advancing both these grass-roots and global impact solutions, the value of your donated art will be tax deductible, and of course, you and a guest will receive a VIP invite as an Artist in Action.

Artists in Action can communicate across all borders and barriers. They have a special role in unifying humanity to co-create change in every aspect that it is needed, and it is needed in every aspect. We would love to highlight you as an Artist in Action on our website and invite you to attend the Artists in Action Event Series. Exact dates for the Spring event are yet to be confirmed, but we want to give you time to pick out a piece or create one to donate.

Thank you for taking the time to consider this request. Please feel free to contact me any time to discuss Artists in Action and how you can help co-create the change you want to see. For more detailed program information, visit: www.empowermentworks.org

We look forward to hearing from you soon and hope you will participate!

Please share this opportunity with other artists that wish to take a part in "Humanity Uniting".

Sincerely,

MikeBlyth posted a new topic:

1. Join Flickr if you haven't already.

2. Join this group (link on the group's home page)

2. Upload your photos using the easy-to-use Flickr upload application (look for the Upload link on the menu items at the page bottom)

3. From the main Your Photos page, click on a photo to share in this group. This will open a new page just for that photo. Above the photo there are links including "Send to Group". Just click on that and then select the ECWA Evangel Hosptial group as the target. That's all :-)

Getting this group started -- where are the photos ??

MikeBlyth posted a new topic:

Currently the only pictures I can find on Flickr about Evangel Hospital are my own. And since right now there isn't a fast way to put multiple pictures into a group pool, it may take a while to get all mine into this group. Meanwhile, you can search my stream (user = MikeBlyth) or just search all Flickr for "Evangel Hospital".

Also, the proper way to post photos on Flickr is to only post those belonging to oneself. There are many Evangel on our website that are not mine, so they won't be found in this group unless we can get the owners to post them or agree for them to be included.

If you have visited or worked at Evangel, you doubtless have some great photos to share. Please include them here!
