I got lucky. I've been creating photos since 2004 and recently got a once in lifetime chance to buy any camera I wanted. I had been shooting with a D200 so was already sold on Nikon. When D800 and D800E were introduced, my choice was a no brainer; the D800E was the only camera for me. Resolution was the first thing to draw me in. Once I started reading about the rest of the functionality and specs, it was just a matter of money.

The lucky part came when a previous employer offered an accelerated pension program. Long story short, when I got the check I bought the last camera I'm sure I will ever own (with lots of great glass and other stuff too).

So here I am, several months later, still learning great things about this camera that has changed how I create photos, and loving every minute. I'm looking forward to spending time shooting, sharing and enjoying this group. I'll be honest with my comments on your art. I invite you to feel free to do the same on mine.

Just the 24-70 f2.8 at the moment along with 5x batteries, grip, 2x SB 900s and a bunch of filters. Having a think before I jump into the other lenses...tempted by the 16-35 or 12-24...haven't quite figured out the long end...70-200 f2.8 might be a bit to big and heavy to take up a bunch of mountains :)

The DxO mark benchmark is much better than the Nikon 35mm F1.4. I bought it on the day it was released and have had any problem at all. The only gripe for me is onion bokeh. Super sharp at F1.4. Amazing lens.

X3NiTH posted a reply:

That looks pretty sturdy. I just spent the last month abroad travelling and used a Condor Cobra One Point Bungee Sling (Military grade rifle sling). I modified mine slightly to increase its security by drilling holes in the plastic clips to pass through a cable tie to prevent accidental/clandestine unlocking of the harness. I was initially using a Black Rapid Fastenr R3 as a connection point to the camera, but it made long exposure shots a pain trying to hand steady without a flat surface, so I swapped that out with a Gary Fong GearGuard Camera Body Lock that had a nice flat surface on the bottom, this was then attached to the sling with a screw locking Karabiner. I also hung a V1 from the triangular connection point which was attached using a Fastenr R3 and Karabiner combination. When slung over my shoulder the 800 was at waist level and the V1 rested at base of sternum level. In this combination I could use each camera to counter balance the other when shooting and the bungee cord helped to soak up some vibrational energy from the strap when held tight. Rock Solid !

Did zip-lining through the jungle canopy at the Daintree forest and both cameras came with me attached to that strap. Wouldn't have done had I brought anything less sturdy !

This is by far the the ugliest and most pretentious strap I ever saw. Not even any kind of padding, not comfortable to carry it for longer periods.

I am happy with a BlackRapid, the simplest model. Over three years in use and not any kind of problems. It is also rather discrete and lacks any hooks that will just get caught by anything.

If military grade is important for you, consider selling your Prius for a Hummer:-)

So I'm waiting for my D800e to come in from B&H and I also ordered the Vulture A4 camera strap. I looked up the spec on in and was sold on how well this thing was built. Military grade construction, and i just want something sturdy to lug my D800e around. Just wanted to know if anyone else has bought other straps and if so, which one and what you think about them. Thanks. D

Almost half price. I have the Nikkor, but I wouldn't turn my nose up at the newer Sigmas *if* they've corrected their color rendition: earlier lenses (e.g., 30/1.4 DC HSM, 50-150/2.8 DC HSM) were distinctly warmer (yellow / green / brown) than Nikkors.
