Hey, I'm basically a film guy but I love my K-01. I bought it with the 40mm and generally use it with that or a 28 to 80 zoom. I also have some great manual primes and with the K-01's focus peaking they are awesome. I still like my SLRs but I am very happy with my K-01.

I used the DA 40mm f/2.8 on my K-01 the other day while shooting some video. Honestly haven't used it much for photos yet, just video. But tempted to take it out for a photo stroll with just the 40 and see how I like using it as a camera. But I think I would prefer the viewfinder especially on a sunny day.

The main reason I bought the K-01 was so I could focus easily and accurately with screw-mount and K-mount primes, and it is perfect for them. But short zooms aren't bad, either. I have a Vivitar (Kiron) 28-85 f/2.8-3.8 that I'm going to put on the K-01 soon.

Have you got any of the little Pentax primes? If you have, give them a go on it, it lends itself to them. Zooms are a different matter with the handling. :-)

I'm with you, for me it couldn't be better. I had a Pentax DSLR (2) and really never used them; too big (I'm glad I wasn't tempted to buy a Canon, I'd probably be on disability by now). I've totally enjoyed using remote triggers with flash on the K-01, on the DSLR peeking through the finder made it really hard.

I picked one up the other week...too hard to pass up the price for a camera with the fantastic K-5 sensor in it! Got it specifically for shooting video with but it might get used for other things too...we will see.

Sounds like good times. I agree, the K-01 is a winner. Yesterday morning I went to the local foliage festival with my K-01 and a macro lens and got some great closeup flower shots. So easy!

Reply to Hands-on impressions, anyone?

Love it! I do have occasional issues when using my glasses and manual focus lenses, with the strap I can't get the camera far enough away, or I look at the LCD without glasses on. In bright light the reflection can be an issue.

On the other hand, this camera with the wonderful Pentax primes, the small sharp ones, is superb! In fact with most of the M42 primes it is a perfect partner. With zooms however it is a tad inflexible and looks stupid. However on the end of the DA*300mm and a tripod it was rather good, and did not feel stupid at all.
It is the perfect complement to my K-5 and a worthy addition to my camera bag.

IHD Photography posted a new topic:

I really do.
Today, I took the photos for the local theatre group. Normally I have the K-5 and K20D as the pair of bodies for this kind of work. One with my DA*50-135 and the other for wider work (previously DA16-45, now the Tamron 17-50)

Today, I took the K-01 too, initially with the DA35 on the front.

Well I took 1100 photos in all, with the K-5 having the Tamron on the front, and the K20D with the mighty brute.
The K20D got used a lot as overall the 50-135 is the best for the close up work of the cast. The K-5 less used until I changed the lenses.
But the K-01. Oh boy! it was great! The on screen focus peaking, even in AF mode was a boon. Not as fast at focusing, but with good light, it was fine. Above all else, so flexible.
I did not think it would cope, but it did.
