₪ ENGLAND + NEW ENGLAND ₪ [Post 1/ Award 3]

The ₪ ENGLAND + NEW ENGLAND ₪ group is dedicated to the high quality photography (both photos and videos) depicting a wide variety of topics related to the two regions indicated in the group's title.

°° ENGLAND °° is a country located off the north-western coast of continental Europe, together with Scotland, Wales, and No. Ireland a part of the United Kingdom of Great Britain and Northern Ireland.
°° NEW ENGLAND °° is a region in the northeastern corner of the United States of America, consisting of the six states: Maine, New Hampshire, Vermont, Massachusetts, Rhode Island, and Connecticut.

UK and US, "Britain and America . . . two great nations divided by the same language," observed once Sir Winston Churchill. Similarly, Oscar Wilde elaborated, "We have really everything in common with America nowadays, except, of course, language." Yes, both of them were joking about our language differences, in reality only minor and insignificant, between the British English and American English.

American take on the same has never been so brilliant as in 1955 Meeting the Queen episode of the famous "I Love Lucy Show." Lucy and Ethel, standing in front of the Buckingham Palace, are trying unsuccessfully to understand Cockney accent of a mumbly Londoner. Ethel, "Sir, you have to pardon us, we're Americans. We don't understand English!" Lucy, "Could you perhaps talk just a bit slower?"

A good news for Englishmen and New Englanders: No other speech in the USA is as close to British English as the New England's American English. You're going to 'Pa[r]k the ca[r] in Ha[r]va[r]d Ya[r]d' only in Massachusetts! And now, after we've established the common ground, the English language, between England and New England, we may move to more important issues, such as photography!

Please ~ post your BEST images and add to each one its location and your personal reflection within either a subject title, tags, or a caption description. WARNING: Images with nudity, discrimination, or violence are not allowed in our group! Keep in mind: COMMENTS / AWARDS ARE MANDATORY!
REMINDER: When you post your photograph, award the minimum of 3 (or more) other photographs. Your awards must be given in the FIRST 2 PAGES of the group's main pool and IMMEDIATELY after you post your photo! All images not in compliance with these guidelines will be deleted promptly.

Hi new member, Joe from New England, Connecticut, Colchester and Norwich (even the town/city names are often the same!). I have only recently become serious about my photography and mostly take pictures of local historic buildings, but also enjoy general nature photos, car and motorcycle shows (esp British). I hope to take some pics at local auto races as well. I have interests in fashion and portraits, but doubt I will post any of those here unless they are very typical of my area.

I hope to travel to England at some point in the future and do plan to travel all throughout New England. Great idea for a group.

Hi everyone. I'm Tom and I come from Crewe, Cheshire, England. I have visited Boston, Newport, New York And Washington. I went on a group tour, which was new to me because I always travel as a singleton. I am a keen photographer and I am on my second spell on Flickr, I thought that I could get by without it, but I missed some of my contacts, so I joined up again a few weeks ago. My photographic interests are people, railways, really anything I think will make a good subject. I am retired and I am a member of the RSPB.

Hi,

I live on the Isle-of-Wight; a small island/county off the south coast of England at the end of Southampton Water - from where the great liners departed in the days before air transport and Portsmouth, Britain's premier Royal Naval dockyard.

Many famous poets and writers including Tennyson, Keats, Dickens and Swinburne have lived here due to its mild climate. Osborne House; the country home of Queen Victoria and Prince Albert is in East Cowes, opposite the venue of the world famous Cowes Week yachting regatta.

Julia Margaret Cameron, a Victorian photographer and friend of Lord Tennyson, well known for her portraiture which has influenced many photographers, lived at Dimbola Lodge in Freshwater Bay.

Nearby, in Afton, was the famous 1970 pop festival at which Jimi Hendrix made one of his last appearances.

The island is very rural and beautiful.

Many thanks for the invite. Looking forward to seeing great pictures from both sides of the Atlantic. The village in which I now live has a very important association with New England.

Edwardstone is a parish of some 350 souls located in the south of Suffolk, England, midway between Sudbury and Hadleigh. On 12th January 1587 it was the birthplace of John Winthrop, whose family owned the manor in the neighbouring village of Groton. In October 1629 he was elected the governor of the Massachusetts Bay Colony, and in April 1630 he led a group of colonists to the New World, founding a number of communities on the shores of Massachusetts Bay and the Charles River. He held the governor post for 12 annual terms until his death on 26th March 1649.

A map of Massachusetts reveals many place names which would be familiar to Suffolk residents, such as Acton, Newton, Boxford, Haverhill, Walpole and Ipswich. Also, the two share the rather dubious distinction as having once been the site of witchcraft trials.

Hey there, I'm from Essex, in the East of Old England, no specialist subjects, I just try and do the best with what ever I come across, liking the New England v Old England thing, could be fun! Been back into photography for a few years now, after having a 35 mm Minolta back in my teen years, looking forward to being a member of a vibrant and interesting group....

I love the idea of this group. My name is Lisa, I am originally from the small town of West Boylston, located in Worcester County in central Massachusetts, USA. Now living in Dallas, Texas.

I have quite a few friends in England, and am always fascinated by the parallels between England and New England. So many towns, cities and places share names and character.

I love our shared history. Fantastic concept for a Flickr group. Thank you!

Thank-you to PICQERO for the invite. I go to sea for a living and so have the good fortune to travel the world whilst being paid! My trusty NIKON D80 is a constant companion although I am considering an upgrade to a D800 (or similar) in the near future. Delighted to be in this group and I trust that my inputs are up to the required standard!
