Corinne

I'll send those out to you in the next couple days!

Rebecca: I finished mine today, but my block is a hair short of 12.5", so I didn't trim at all...I'm sorry. I don't know how that happened. I just had the machine service and he had to adjust my needle position, so I'm guessing my seams were slightly over 1/4", making my block about 12.25" instead of 12.5". You can use mine on that back if you need to! Or for a matching pillow cover...so sorry...
I also had my iron spew brown crud on the very first little triangle set, so I had to wash that--luckily it came off...and I then cleaned my iron...

January Bee Block

rebeccalbark posted a new topic:

Hello Ladies,

I can't believe it's January and time to get started with our Bee! Very exciting!

I picked Envy from 99 Modern Blocks (pg 56-57). I made copies and included them with your fabric. If I see you at the meeting on Tuesday, you'll get it then, otherwise I'll put it in the mail on Wednesday.

A couple of notes about the block.

I cut the fabric into strips or squares and all but the white fabric to one of the dimensions required. I used post-it's to alert you as to which fabric I want for each piece, A- D and the size, but please let me know if you have questions. I think it's pretty straight-forward.

I pressed seams toward the darker fabric when I could, but do not fuss over it! The only piece it really matters on is the white center square.

Also, step 5 is a little confusing and the picture doesn't help. Basically when you start sewing the sides to the center square, you only want to sew it halfway, leaving a flap (the book calls it a partial seam). This is so that when you attach the fourth and final side everything matches up because the flap makes the fabric sorta flexible. I hope this helps!

Lastly, I did have to trim each side after I attached it to the center square. The block still ended up 12 1/2", so if you have to trim it should be fine.

Again, let me know if you have questions.

When you finish your block, please take a picture and post it so we can all see! Each person got different fabric combos, so they will all look a little different.

Please reply to this thread to let me know you received your package if I mailed it to you.

Cheers,

Rebecca

Quilt Bee Guidelines

rebeccalbark posted a new topic:

Welcome to the 1st Milwaukee Modern Quilting Guild Bee!
We begin distributing fabric at our January Meeting, first block will be due at our February Meeting (dates TBD),

Thank you for agreeing to be a part of this bee. Each bee member will be randomly assigned a month in which other bee members will sew blocks for.

You’ll need to:
•	Select a quilt block that you’d like bee members to sew
o	You could have one block that all 11 members sew
o	Or you could choose a different block for each bee member to sew
o	Or you could give guidelines, for example: create a 12 ½” block with one or more star of your choosing in it (bee members could choose a sawtooth star, a paper pieced star, etc.)
o Keep size in mind, a 12 ½” block with 12 blocks will make a 36” x 48 “ quilt without any borders, but you may select any size you’d like
o	Your host would be happy to make copies of the pattern you choose
•	Purchase fabric to be divided and distributed to all bee members
•	Sew one block per month for other bee members

In order to save costs, we can distribute fabric and patterns at the guild’s monthly meetings or sew days. If you cannot attend the meeting or make arrangements to meet with the bee host, you’ll be responsible for mailing blocks and fabric.

It is understood that sometimes life gets in the way and you might not be able to complete your block in time for the monthly meeting. In this case, you must communicate with the bee host to make arrangements to get the block done as soon as possible.

It would be great if you could post pictures of your blocks to our Flickr Group. You will be invited by the bee host to this Flickr group or you may email the bee host with pictures.

Suggestions for selecting a block:
•	Books
o	99 Modern Blocks, Susanne Woods
o	Block Party, Alissa Haight Carlton and Kristen Lejnieks
•	Blogs (there are numerous quilt bloggers out there from which to draw inspiration)
•	Flickr (search groups for “quilting bee blocks” to see hundreds of ideas)
•	Select a block and fabric that will allow each bee member some creative freedom to make each block unique
