The Dashwood Tea Bubble Society

I invite you all, Man or Woman, to share your romance of a quintessential ideal, images that conjure up your perfect dreamy world of timeless elegance, be it modern or historic, be it British (as in my own homeland) or from your own 'bubble' of the world.

WHY DASHWOOD?
Because the Society is founded by 'Susannah Dashwood'.

WHY TEA?
Because tea represents the quintessential culture of elegance, refinement, etiquette and all things 'Truly Scrumptious'.

WHY BUBBLE?
Because this Society represents a fantasy world. This world is for all the 'Idealists' out there. For those who secretly fantasise that modern life were still as real as our romanticised ideals of the great novels past, such as Jane Austen's 'Sense and Sensibility' and that we could still really skip around in long frilly petticoats, Pantaloons and Pelisse. That we could spend our evenings swinging up to the sky on a wooden swing adorned with English climbing roses just like 'Truly Scrumptious'!

My best regards,

Susannah Dashwood

Being a musician I have played at numerous Royal engagements from Funerals, weddings to visits. There is something very special about a Royal occasion which was proved this summer at the olympics both with the Queen and members of the Royal family getting involved in all the events. It was especially nice to see Zarah Phillips receiving her medal from the Princess Royal (her mum!)
I think with the younger Royals now coming of age the monarchy has a sound future.

I would agree with you, but ever since Carol Burnett did that GWTW skit on her comedy show wearing a Bob Mackie gown, I can't get that image out of my mind!

I have to say, I've now become completely addicted to Twinings Lapsang Souchong tea! I love it so much and probably drink about 8 cups a day! Even leave the tea bag in for extra strength. shop.twinings.co.uk/shop/lapsang-souchong-1.html

Another favourite now is Birt & Tang's ginger tea. I love the earthy smell and it gets better and better the stronger you brew it. Minimum 4 minutes. www.birtandtang.co.uk/ginger.html

Here's another I like too: www.fortnumandmason.com/p-5189-smoky-earl-grey-loose-leaf...

One shelf in the cupboard holds a variety of teas. For every day, usually around 4 – 5pm, I have either green tea or orange pekoe (bags) with lemon and honey. I avoid processed sugar at all costs.

However, I have a variety of loose teas: Earl Grey’s Breakfast Tea, Lapsang Souchong, Russian Caravan, Moroccan Mint, Jasmin, and Yerbe Mate (from South America).

Herbal teas: peppermint, chamomile, a blend called ‘Sleepy Time’ for the late evening before bed (when I brush my hair i.e. wig).

I enjoy the ritual of brewing tea, though it doesn’t happen as often as I would wish. For the loose teas I use an infuser, pour boiling water into a teapot, swirl and dump. Then pour in more boiling water and then the infuser and let it steep for a few moments. I like to add some honey and squeeze a fresh lemon wedge (just a few drops). I do use a mug with an oriental design, but if I had my druthers I would love to have some bone china or porcelain chintz decorated tea cups.

In the hot California summers we brew ‘Sun Tea’ . Six or seven tea bags of orange pekoe, ginger peach, or jasmine tea are placed in a large jar of fresh cold water and put out in the sun in the morning, by late afternoon it’s ready to have with ice, sprigs of fresh mint, sliced lemon and only then will I add some sugar.

I must confess, I do like to have freshly ground and freshly brewed coffee in the morning. Habit and the ‘American way’! Straight up, no cream or sugar.

At this writing I’m enjoying a freshly brewed cup of Czar Nicholas II Russian Caravan, unsweetened. Here’s a toast to all of you.

Susannah, I wish I were wearing a high necked lace Edwardian ensemble; well, in my mind anyway.

I know a cafe that served a nice pot of tea, until recently. It is now that bad that I will not drink it. One of the staff said that they now have a water filtration system. Could that really be the answer ?

Susannah. I took your advice 11 months ago in this thread about Twinings......still hooked on it !!

In the UK the Brits think a hundred miles is a long way, whereas in the US we think a hundred years is a long time!

If I were alive in 1776 I'd probably would have been a Royalist. I am captivated by the pomp and circumstance and the tradition.

With all of the video footage on the Queen's Jubilee you can still see buildings that were there on the day of her Coronation 60 years ago. In the US we tear down buildings less than 50 years old, and put up glass and steel boxes. In my home town in New York State a fantastic medieval mansion was built in 1915 by a millionaire. By the 1970's the family had died out, no hiers wanted to pay the back taxes. The county siezed the property. The local historical society fought to save the building and suggested using it as a cultural and art center. The county spent more money to have it torn down than what was owed on back taxes! What's wrong with this picture?
